{Giveaway} A copper and turquoise collar

—————————————————————————————————

FOF Brenda Cline is giving away this gorgeous copper and turquoise collar. Enter to win by answering in the comments below: What’s the best beach you’ve been to?

Brenda Cline, an FOF from Satellite Beach, Florida, comes from a family of avid surfers–her husband, daughter, son and grandson all love riding the waves. Brenda too, enjoyed surfing until she had a run in with a shark in 1982.

“I couldn’t handle it, I was hyperventilating,” she says. Brenda stopped surfing, but continued accompanying her family members on their surf trips. Looking for something to occupy herself while they hit the waves, Brenda started combing the beach for sea glass and stones. When she returned home, she’d experiment, turning her findings into jewelry.

Brenda started with silver and sea glass, but then, a friend gave her a piece of recycled copper. “That began my love for copper,” says Brenda whose bestsellers are her signature copper collars. “Recently I reflected, asking myself, ‘why do I love working with metals so much?’ My dad was an ironworker. I think that’s a big part of it.”

More recently, Brenda has begun experimenting with aluminum. She crafts each piece from her Satellite Beach studio and sells at art shows and on Etsy. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation using recycled and repurposed metals from hardware stores and natural elements from her family surf trips. On her last trip to Nicaragua, she filled her suitcase with over 16 pounds of stones, for her new “Surf Safari” line. “I sacrificed packing my clothes to bring back stones,” says Brenda. “I have so much passion. Everything I look at, I think: ‘how can I make art out of it?’”

You can see more of Brenda’s pieces in her Etsy shop, Metal Souls.

Enter to win a gorgeous copper collar designed by FOF artist Brenda Cline by answering in the comments below: What’s the best beach you’ve been to?

I’ve only ever been to the beach one time. The first time I saw the ocean was when we went on a family vacation to California in 1976. My father drove us (mom & four other brothers & sisters) in his extended cab pickup with a camper on top. It was quite a long and hot hike from Wyoming. It was an adventure and swimming in the ocean was the most epic experience of my life at age 14. I hope some day to go back to Laguna Beach with my husband. I lost my father four years ago; reading your comments brought back some long forgotten and very pleasant memories. Thank you!

However my favorite beaches are where my sister lives in Atlantic Beach NC, SOBX, we boat out to the islands to shell and swim, it is just like going to the Bahamas The water is so clear, the shells are easy to find and if you go up the coastal waterway in Beaufort you will see families of Dolphins with their babies. When you get in the water near them, you can hear the whistles and clicks. it is AWESOME and we do this all summer long. i bring the shells back to my condo on the bay and put them in my front yard. I love the beach(s). I have lived in South Mission Beach in San Diego, CA, frequented the Northern CA coastline, and visited several beaches on trips. I too had a scary encounter one summer when diving under the water in the bay of So. Mission Beach. I opened my eyes under water to see two very large, wide-apart eyes looking back at me. I was certain it was a shark and turned around swimming to shore for my life. I came out of the water with my legs and life. The Coast Guards caught my “shark” and it turned out to be a very large stingray that got into the bay by mistake. I still love the ocean, bay and any other water source although I am much more cautious. My favorite beach so far has to be in Maui. The waters are so clear and the underwater world is so vibrant and lush there.

Though I’ve been to beaches all over the world, I always return to Daytona… maybe because when I was born (in July) my mother took me home from the hospital, then directly to Daytona–back when there were lots of small houses/apartments. I remember going with an uncle to watch an artist paint on velvet followed by fireworks on July 4th as well as wandering through the lovely park around the boardwalk and bandshell prior to the changes in that area. After high school graduation my mother chaperoned a group of 16 girls in one of those great old beach houses that have since disappeared. Despite unlovely changes, the beach is still wonderfully deep white sand with the sea stretching to color-filled sunrises and sunsets.

I live in Hawaii so it’s hard to pick the most beautiful beach. I’d have to say it’s Keawekapu Beach on Maui’s south shore. When I was a kid, we spent the summers there–wide, like a lake in the morning, waves to catch in the afternoon. Plus a view of 3 other islands–Molokini, Kahoolawe, and Lanai. Sometimes the ocean can make one feel lonely as it’s so vast, but not at Keawekapu–always the 3 islands to keep you comany.

I don’t remember names since it’s been many years ago, but it’s a toss-up between an Hawaiian beach off of the Big Island (it was kind of private) and another beach at Cancun.

I love Rum Point in Grand Cayman. You could walk about a half mile into calm water without it covering your head. Occassionally, a stingray will brush against you and continue along. The water is clear enough to see the beautiful fish. There are hammocks between the trees without hotel managers rushing up to say only guests can use them. The drinks are cool; the people are warm. What a wonderful experiende. Does this sound like I want to go back? Yes, especially if I’m wearing that sexy collar!

Ahhh! I had just turned 13. We were living in northern Italy (Aviano, to be exact, and an hour north of Venice). For my 13th Birthday my parents stuffed all my friends and my birthday cake into the back of “Ol’ Nelly”, our very well used Volvo station wagon. My Dad drove us to a beach on the Adriatic side of the Penninsula. It wasn’t so much the beach, but the best memories a girl could have, all my friends, wading in the sea, watching all the topless women and barely clad men go by. While I’ll never know the name of the beach we went to, it was truly the best beach ever, because of my friends and family and the memories we made that day, so long ago!
