FOF Harriet Zbikowski is giving away 4 pairs of bestselling “Elle Grip” garden gloves from her company, Foxgloves. Choose from 7 spring colors: Crow black, fuchsia, iris, periwinkle, sahara, spring green or tulip. Enter to win by answering in the comments below: Which color gloves would you choose?
Most FOFs have worn many hats in their lives. FOF Harriet Zbikowski, a gardener and professional landscape architect in Hudson Valley, NY, has worn many garden gloves. Yet, in her 20 years in business, she couldn’t find a pair that were just right–the ones sturdy enough for gardening were bulky and unstylish. Harriet preferred the slim, chic fit of vintage fashion gloves, but they weren’t water resistant nor durable. So, fifteen years ago, she set out to create her own line of gloves that would be both elegant and practical.
“I started at the Dupont Fabric Library in New York City,” says Harriet. “There, I got fabric samples and did stress tests, selecting a particular blend that performed the best.” This special blend includes Invista SUPPLEX® nylon for durability and Invista LYCRA® spandex for four-way stretch. The design was based off of a fashion glove from the 50s that Harriet found at a thrift store. “I found the last glove maker left in New York City to make my gloves,” she says. Harriet went into production in 1999. Thirteen years later, 1200 stores nationwide carry Harriet’s gloves which go by the name “Foxgloves,” (also a common flower species). They’ve been featured in dozens of garden and shelter publications including House & Garden, Real Simple and Town and Country.
People also use Harriet’s bestselling “Elle Grip” for driving, bird watching, dog walking, or for a better grip if they have arthritis or other joint problems. Others simply wear them as a fashion accessory. “A few years ago, these shop owners came up to me and said ‘We have to tell you, we’re from Tennessee and girls have been coming in and buying your gloves to go with their prom gowns!’ Another time, a woman came up to me and said, ‘I needed gloves for Easter Sunday, so I wore your gardening gloves to church and they went so perfectly with my Vivienne Westwood!”

Sandy says:
Iris is my favorite color and my favorite flower, but honestly, how could you go wrong with any of these lovely gloves? They look durable and high enough to keep dirt from sneaking in at the wrist. What a novel idea.
Sandy says:
Iris would be my choice. After all, they are my favorite flower and purple is my favorite color. How could I go wrong with any color? They are lovely and look durable. They are also long enough, dirt won’t sneak in at the wrist. Great idea

I love the name and the color is perfect for my spring time garden!!! My tomatoes and bellpeppers would love the gentle touch 🙂 Especially cause I am so paranoid of bugs! I know a gardener who doesn’t like bugs. ME! Would love them
mosiepup says:
All the colors are great, but Iris is my favorite!
arlenes says:
Since my over-sized wide gardening gloves just lost the tip of a finger, the timing couldn’t be better. I have large, slim hands and it’s difficult to fit length and width. Harriet
seems to have found the best of both worlds for me! Thanks.
My first choice is periwinkle which has always been a favorite color of mine. However, the red and iris would match the tulips and iris in the garden.
What a terrific idea…
KAREN COGBURN says:
I adore the periwinkle.

regards,
retired teacher

I love the periwinkle. So pretty!
Gus says:
Black – that is the color of most of me when I am gardening – my knees, my elbows, my hands which I use to wipe sweat off my brow and that creates, of course, a black-dirt face! It may seem too matchy-matchy to have black gloves to match my dirty knees, but I’m a simple girl…:-) What could be more elegant in the dirt!
Lynn says:
Tulip! A great spring color and you won’t lose them in the weeds later in the summer
sheryl.eastridge says:
I love the iris and it’s our state flower. These are just beautiful.
flowerdiva says:
I would choose the Spring Green. These look amazing.
I am an avid gardener and worked many years in a nursery. I have tried many gloves- not only are these fun to wear but they look like they fit so well. Always had an issue with the fit. When I need to really get down and dirty with the dirt…. I get down and get dirty as I always have to take the gloves off. Would love these!!! Great idea!!
fhoagland says:

smfsprout says:
Tough choice. The periwinkle is nice but I think I would have to go with the Iris – and really make a statement!
travelgirl says:
Oh my, this is really a tough choice – all of the colors are fabulous! I guess I would choose the Sahara, only because I have never seen a pair of gardening gloves that color before, so they would be very different. However I do love bright & sunny colors in my wardrobe all year long. These gloves are really nice because they have such lenght to them.
pmernick says:
I would choose periwinkle
Robin says:
I would choose the Tulip, red is my favorite color. The gloves look too beautiful for the garden, but they would look lovely on me in my favorite place to be. I garden for 30min at 530AM before I go to work for mental peace and serenity. Then again most days after worrk and on my days off. I love the garden and mow my own lawn. Thank you

Ohhhh, I especially love the Iris and Periwinkle gloves! I treasure a pair of red cotton gloves from the thrift store; they come a few inches past the wrist. The last place I wore them was at a Maiden, Mother, Crone Retreat, where the other women admired them so much!
mink says:
spring green
Catherine says:
Spring Green — my favorite color! And, I love how, if you’re working in the garden, you’re not competing with the plants but rather blending right in!
Loesje Shema says:
I prefer the Iris, and they are all lovely. I especially k=like that they are long, so dirt doesn’t come into the glove through the cuff if I’m workin’ hard. The length also prevents scratches and sunburn, and my skin needs all the help it can get these days.
Marilyn says:
WOW I love the tulip! Actually I love them all :).
MGABBYB says:
Definitely the black ones.
mary says:
Iris, I need a pair of high gloves like these because I almost picked up a baby copperhead when I was weeding and I am scared to finish.
Carolyn James says:
GARDENING to me has always been a joy and I’ve never seen gloves more joyful than these! They’re energy lifting, just to look at. My neighbors would get energized from a distance. Well done, Harriet. Where can I get these if I don’t win? Fuschia and periwinkle set my heart a flutter! …cj

MoonRae says:
Definitely the Fuschia!! these are wonderful!! chic and functional
dmnyes says:
Ohhh, the dilemma to choose, but if I must, I would choose the Spring Green. Green, the color of nature. Giving credence to the old adage “GREEN THUMB”.
Mary K. says:
I’d pick the periwinkle. My favorite color is green but that shade of green is horrific. Not my idea of Spring green at all. Maybe it just doesn’t show well?
SammyJo says:

thereislightonthehorizon says:
Oh my gosh! Glamour in the garden! *and not just my roses!
But, the main thing would be to protect my hands and (especially) arms from the hazards of thorns and saw-like grasses. Sometimes, after a time in the garden, my arms look like they have ‘defensive wounds’ from a hard mornings workout! 😉
It would be so fun to have the fuchsia or even iris colored gloves to work in the garden. They could compete with my roses and daisy’s.
It sure would be nice to win these gloves!
BTW, LOVE the business name choice of Foxgloves…it certainly brings to mind a garden full of heirloom flowers 🙂
Martha Sala says:
I would choose the perriwinkle. So calming to do your Garden work with. These are gorgeous and I need them desperately.

Joanna Baker (@JoannaMBaker) says:
Periwinkle!
Cynthia says:
These gloves are just beautiful! And a glove I would actually wear – usually, I start out wearing gloves, get frustrated with them and rip them off. It’s hard to choose among such lovely colors, but I’ll go with periwinkle, should I win. Thank you for the opportunity!
novokate says:
Without a doubt-periwinkle. I usually garden in latex surgical gloves because the thicker gardening gloves don’t allow me to “feel” the soil, but they do have their drawbacks. Sweaty hands and breaking easily to mention a few. I would love to try these gloves and again in periwinkle which is one of my favorite colors for the garden.
Sheila Chaffins says:
My favorite color is blue. These gloves are beautiful!
LydiaAlice says:
The fuschia to remind me of what the future blossoms will bring!
Lila Martin says:
I’m thinkin Fuschia! All of my garden gloves usually end up being pink. I love pink. I have to have gloves cover my hands now b/c I have had some places removed (damage from sun). But by wearing gloves always when I’m working outside the damage has definitely slowed down. Thanks!

Alana Moss says:
I have to go for the Iris gloves.

Alana Moss says:
I have to go for the Iris ones.
Felina M says:
Gotta go with Iris!
Tina Ashton says:
Since moving to South Carolina 2 years ago I have finally had time and the inspiration to work in the garden. Folks here are really into their landscaping and while I never thought of myself as having a green thumb I have learned that with all of the heat and humidity in the south plants grow quite easily as long as you keep them watered regularly. The garden gloves are great and like everyone all the colors are fabulous. But if I win I’d love a pair of the spring green. The bright color is so on trend this year.
Laurinda says:
I have been buying Harriet’s chic but fabulously practical gloves forever! The black ones are also great for evenings out when you are missing a glove. I admire her ambition and success and continued friendliness…..she often appears at Trade Shows and Flower Shows in the Boston area selling her own gloves! The new gloves are fabulous for getting a grip on things when you are gardening.
I love all her colors and style. I would love the Spring Green or Fuschia….I might be able to find them again when digging. Continued good fortune to Harriet.
wizardewu says:
I would choose iris. It’s my favorite color.
sharon910 says:
I love them all but spring green and fushia hit me really good. I am 69 and would love to sport something so fashionable.

Definitely the blue…..called periwindle!
Ruth says:
I would choose the fuchsia gloves. I use mostly fuschsia colored impatiens in my garden and these would get me in the spirit to dig!
bkrauss says:
Spring Green for sure! And they sure would be wonderful as I dig through the blackberry shrubs and nettles in my yard!
barbara s says:
fuschia is my color today. thanks for the draw
atrenzad says:
I will choose Spring Green, the color goes with the grass, the trees and my way of thinking GREEN

Deborah Cohen says:
I belong to a CSA (community supported agriculture) where we do all the farming work, from planting to harvesting and all the “recreational weeding” that comes along. I would love to do this work in a pair of periwinkle Foxgloves. I love that they are long gloves which will protect my arms from stinging nettles and the like. They will look so elegant while adding style to my t-shirts and work boot look!!
kellykat says:
beautiful, beautiful colors —-I would love any one of them but think I’d choose fushia for its bright cheerful feel. the size I’d choose would be medium
hoppupp says:
Now this would be interesting in color.
kmariem18 says:
So hard to choose, but spring green is so lovely.
pameladw says:
I would order the Spring Green gloves hoping that they would give me a green thumb!! LOL
WLONGMAN says:
The Spring Green gloves are just the thing to camouflage my hands while hunting the dreaded thistles and blackberries that sneak into my garden every year. The nasty little weeds won’t know what hit ’em!
AJB says:
Sounds like a great product. I would choose Periwinkle.
elisse says:
Fuschia! But all the bright fun colors are great and I’d enjoy any of them!

Michelle says:
Fuchsia, then maybe the men here will leave them alone!
Diane says:
Periwinkle please. My perennial bed is based on yellow, white and as close as I can get to periwinkle blue. I love gloves that fit so well that you can still feel what you are doing. Down with ugly Mickey Mouse gloves suitable only for manure shoveling!
beachwoman says:
These slim, chic Foxgloves sound perfect. Love that they are not bulky enabling me to grasp my tools more easily. Periwinkle is the color for me!
evans s says:
I like tulip

Mary says:
I want the periwinkle ones – love them!
Nancy Jachcik says:
Like spring green color. I could use a good pair of garden gloves because I am constantly ruining my nails with outdoor work.
Louise M. says:
These are great gloves! I’m so tired of the bulky ones sold in stores, I want to feel the plants with my hands and enjoy the experience of making my garden bloom. All the colors are beautiful but I guess I would choose “Spring Green” to start the season off right with a pop of color.
Sharron says:
I actually LOVE the Fuschia color as my FAV, even though they all would be luscious to wear when working in my flowers! Such a statement! My neighbors would be envious! We have a small garden in our back yark, along with my ROSES, and other flowers that I enjoy working with. I am a young “62” yr. old and would be delighted and appreciative to win a pair of these gloves. I usually buy a pair from Wal Mart, a cheaper version, so I would LOVE to try a nicer, more stylish pair!
spurnky says:
Crow Black
Tha922 says:
Wow, What beautiful gloves! I am an avid gardener and usually go through several of the cheap pairs each season. I love the fact they go up your arm, great when pruning the thorny plants. The colors are wonderful, which makes it very difficult to choose. For practical purposes so I can’t misplace them in the garden, I guess I would have to go with the Tulip.
Rhnea says:
fuschia, my fAVE!
Debra Simning-Chapman says:
I love these colors, and I would choose Iris. I’m a purple girl for sure!
Sue says:
I love these gloves because they are long and would protect your forearms as well as your hands. The Iris is my favorite as they would match my rubber garden shoes!!
Rosemary Simm says:
Tulip Red !!!
When I work outside with my flowers, I’m always losing
my gloves. The are usually short, green and flowers decorating them. Red would stand out beautifully for me to see when I lay them down in wrong places. Not to

I love the way you have made a necessary object so beautiful. I think all the colors are lovely, but I guess if I have to choose, periwinkle would be my favorite. I can see myself using these all season. I love playing in the dirt, but don’t like what it does to my hands and nails.
