FOF Rachel Ashwell is giving away a Shabby Chic® distressed hand painted accent table from her new QVC ‘Treasures’ line launching October 26th. To enter, tell us in the comments below: What is your decorating style?
Shabby Chic® Queen Rachel Ashwell is at it again! Her new line, “Treasures by Shabby Chic® for QVC” inspired by her favorite flea market finds, launches next week.
Known for her deliberately distressed, mismatched and imperfect furniture, bedding and fabrics, Rachel got her start as a Hollywood movie set designer and stylist more than twenty years ago.
In 1989, Rachel dreamed of opening a small shop where she could sell “pretty things,” without spending much time away from her children. Her first shop in Santa Monica, California, became the cornerstone of her “Shabby Chic” empire. Today her products and textiles can be found in Target, Michaels, and most recently QVC, and the term Shabby Chic®, is used to refer to an entire style of decorating. Rachel has written half a dozen books on decorating in her Shabby Chic® style.
‘Treasure” hunting is in Rachel’s blood. Her mother was a restorer and seller of antique dolls, and her father was a rare book dealer. They introduced Rachel to flea markets and antique stores at a young age. Her all-time favorite finds were the inspiration for her newest collection and book, Shabby Chic Inspirations and Beautiful Spaces.
Enter to win a shabby chic accent table from Rachel Ashwell’s new “Treasures” collection for QVC by telling us in the comments below: What is you decorating style?
(See all our past winners. See official rules. See QVC’s official rules. One winner is chosen at random from all those commenters who answer the question. Contest closes October 27, 2011.)
Thank you for entering. This contest is now closed.

usually my mood dictates my decorating style, i am in the process of redoing what i am calling my back room. just finished painting, now i go to yard sales and estate sales, love unique finds, also i find pieces i can sand down and re-do to whatever finish i feel at the time. i love this piece, i already see where i would put it in my back room, i have 9 windows there, the house was built in 1930 and my mom left it to me so to honor her this would go in her favorite part of the back room, thank you for this great opportunity!!

My style in living room is contemporary with Asian accents. Just love eclectic “stuff” all in one room.
Always bellieve — “less is more”.
mindy42954 says:
My decorating style is to put what ever I feel comfortable with in the room. I love old pieces that have been handed down from my grandmother. My living room is full of such pieces. Dark mahogany with lots of lace doiles and victorian figurines.
Rosemary Simm says:
This is such a sweet table.
RarnChild says:
Good question! LOL I have a lot of ‘acquired’ pieces – I guess my ‘theme’ is comfortable. With a new grandson, this works for me! 😀
cefears says:
I’d have to call my decorating style animal friendly as I have a big dog (100 lb Weimaraner), 3 cats and a husband. We live in a 120+ year old house in an old French section of St. Louis and shabby chic would go great with it. I can just see the accent table in my entry hall under the almost 100 year old portrait of my great-grandmother .
travelgirl says:
I tend to go with what I like – not necessarily a certain trend. So I would have to say “eclectic” would fit me best. After all, isn’t it all about making your home comfortable and tasteful to yourself and your family, and their needs?
By the way – I love this table!
Cecilia Andes says:
My style is contemporary
kmcnich says:
I like rustic, country, french, bohemian….yep that about sums it up. I also love pieces that look handcrafted or have been recycled.
KAREN COGBURN says:
My style includes many antiques so this would fit in perfectly.
Samantha says:
I’m pretty lucky to have a decorating style that is shared by my partner – we both love the rustic, slightly-worn aesthetic that comes naturally with age. Our home is decorated with a few antique statement pieces and several DIY projects meant to mimic that “vintage” look! This accent table would go wonderfully in our bedroom 🙂
Jo Anne says:
Eclectic, for sure! But I lean toward French country.
freebyrdmom says:
My decorating style is simple but i love elegance. This table looks elegant. I am now the owner of a home in S.C. and I have to think of ways to decorate since it will probably one day be my home forever. I want to decorate in black and white in part of the house and that is exactly something I am looking for. I have no plans just to settle. This is something I would love to own. It is simple and elegant looking.
naruda58 says:
Lovely!
OcalaRose says:
My house is filled with furniture that was new for another home and climate. Although I use it all now, it’s needs to be refigured and a few pieces brought in for that pop

Well, believe it or not my style would fit perfectly with this because it is shabby chic. Love that style, it has so much to offer and you can do so much with it. I’m ashamed to say my style is whatever I like. It’s neither this nor that. I would love to start collecting items such as this accent table and try for a Shabby Chic style.
mink says:
I think it’s a (slight) exaggeration to say I have ANY decorating style. My house has a bit of everything, mostly handed down. I like clean lines & dark woods but if I have to pigeonhole myself I’ll go with eclectic.

Jeanne Kopang Zaks says:
Well okay, since you asked. My favorite decorating style is Rachell Ashwell’s style… for real, I’m not kidding one little bit. I am in awe of her style. white, white, white with a touch of pastel color & ruffles, comfy covered couch, antique love-seat or a chair, (I saw a cute one at her boutique in Santa Monica and should have bought it) chandeliers, beautifully rich satin draperies that pool onto the floor. All that is Rashell Ashwell – is what I love 🙂 I haven’t many of her things though, I’m a beginner, but it’s my hearts desire. Her books are especially helpful too I’ve found. Thanks for asking.

nascarblue3 says:
FUN, I have never been a woman where everything has to match, I love distressed furniture and also peices that have that fun look. When I go into a home that everything in the rooms totally match, it makes me feel as though I am in a showroom of a store. There are peices I would take out of that room and put with other peices from other rooms, when I get tired of looking at certain rooms I know I can move things around with what I already have, and I have alot of fun doing that, also I love redoing some peices, sanding them down, also when I sand some peices I will leave certain areas alone, I will put a semi-transparant, maybe a clear or light colr leaving the sanding visible, fun fun fun, restaining them, or repainting them and making a new look just by redoing what I already have. People come in and ask WOW where did you get this or that and I tell them that was the peice I had before I just refurbished the peice. Fun, is what I have, not having alot of money I have alot of ideas with peices I already have. To win this distressed accent able to me would be awesome, it has the stye, color and definatly the fun already in the peice and it already has a place in my home, would I love to win this, are you kidding me, YES YES YES, thank you for this chance, good luck to everyone, this hand painted accent table is awesome, whoever painted this has a fun and unique taste, KUDOS to the creator.

I just buy things that I fall in love with. Because I fall in love with items of all different genres people call my style eclectic. But because my things are basically one or more of three bright colors and they’re all comfy, people love coming to my house.
gsurell says:
My style is start with neutral colors as a foundation (walls and/or floors/carpets), then spice it up with splashes of color in the decor pieces (paintings, accent pieces, etc.). We have done one bathroom in a lovely soft sage, and splashed it up with sunflowers and earthy bird prints and accent pieces. It looks so nice together, but is not overwhelming. Some items are wire art – see through – that gives depth and texture to the walls. Amazing how shopping at several different places allowed us to piece together a charming little bathroom with just the right accents.
jane says:

gail armstrong says:
My decorating style is electic. I like all sorts of pieces ranging from a living room filled with Hendredon Artefacts and accented with lots of antique oriental pieces like my grandma’s Chinese trunk from the 19th century. In addition my home must have lots of plants to provide oxygen and a feeling of a light and airy space. We light to bring the indoors in during the winter so we have an Alice du Pont plant flowering at the current moment. We also have a beautiful white hydragena. In our family room we have a beautiful floral couch and 2 comfy chairs that recline so we can sit back and enjoy the television, read, or pet our dogs. The shabby chic table would be the perfect accent table to put on the left of my comfy cream -colored chair. It would add romance to the room along with our other unique table we picked from one of my multitude of catalogs. Plus it would be very functuntional. At this time we only have one small glass table that I get to utlize between us. I could use to put a cup of freshly brewed coffee on and one of my many african violets. I just know it would be perfect in our house.
d tysinger says:
My style is a little of this and that using furniture we inherited from our parents – some are 60 to 70 years old!

My decorating style is trying to merge my mother-in-law’s style with my style. We bought her home & moved in and had to downsize. We have tried to incorporate each person’s style but it has been quite difficult. Not to be mean – but she has no style whatsoever. I love to decorate & try new things. She just wants things to stay the way they’ve always been. What to do?

My decorating style is a polar opposite from my husband’s. (You don’t want to know what his is.) I tend to favor Arts and Crafts, and it fits with our rustic log cabin style home. However, what we have is my deceased mother’s colonial, colonial revival, leather sofas, cabin rustic, and a bunch of oriental accents mixed with shabby chic here and there, plus my husband’s junk. It’s interesting, comfortable, liveable, and I’m not too embarrassed to invite guests over.

My decorating style is something given, mixed with something old, mixed with something new. My mom may give me a sofa, I’ll have a old coffee table , and then buy new pillows for the couch. Most of the time it’s based on what I can afford and what I can do to make things look good.

My decorating style is shabby chic. I just did my little house in Myrtle Beach in Shabby Chic/French country because it’s light and airy-usually white predominate color-goes with anything. It was just right for being by the beach. StChienne says:
My style varies — I’ve had mid-century modern homes complete down to the boomerang tables in L.A. and early American spaces with candle snuffers in Princeton. The quality that’s ‘me’ is a constant, no matter what the decor. Lots of color, a sense of whimsy and things I love always combine to produce a warm and welcoming space.

I used to spend hours in my Grandma’s attic back in the ’50s, in antique shops in Colorado Springs in the ’60s, went to an antique auction in NC in 1980s. Sounds like my kind of shop!

We live in my family’s homeplace which was built by my great-great grandfather in 1834. Most of the furniture, and much of the decor, is made up of antique pieces from the family. I love this about living in this house. We’ve been redoing what used to be our daughter’s room as a guest room. Her bed was shabby chic and will remain in the room as will the shabby chic wash stand. We’ve purchased a shabby chic wardrobe but really do need a table for the bedside.
Ellen says:
My house is pretty traditional, with a few antiques. But am liking modern now.

This table is soo cute and will match perfectly with the crib ensemble we have chosen for my new granddaughter, who is expected in January. Her cradle is antique white, her crib is white, the room is pale ivory and the crib ensemble is polka dots of pink, white, and turquoise. Everyone can use a little additional storage, to keep things out of sight.
glormon says:
Shabby Chic is definitely my style and everyone who sees my decorating loves it!
belindabg says:
Different rooms have different styles. I keep an eclectic house – the downstairs is all Egyptian, from the large Sarcophagus to the incredible movie posters from the Cleopatra films of the 20’s, 30’s and 50’s. The upstairs is Shabby Chic, and this little table would find the perfect home. I collect antique wall mirrors and they are throughout the house, I even have one whole wall of them in the dining room of all different shapes from the 20’s. It’s FUN.
Debra Stoykovich says:
My decorating style is absolutely ECLECTIC. I have items from the 1600’s all the way to completely modern. Mixing colors, textures, and periods satisfy me completely. Mary Leonard says:
My home is a little cottage just for me that reflects my new life as a widow/empty nester in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri. I’m still determining the
“style” but for now hardwood floors, a mix of old and new with soft taupe & aqua colors are at the base of
the home and that pretty little table would bring JOY!

My style has been “On Sale” or whatever someone is giving away, for some odd reason it works.
Hotforfifty says:
My style is one based on the things I love, bringing together various textures with some coordinated colors – a large clear vase of sea shells, book shelf with various size wicker baskets, and a montage of black and white Audrey Hepburn photos. The Shabby Chic table would look SO great next to my bed as my bed cover is a black & white Le Fleur design, and I recently painted my bedroom a pale bluish/green. Just this morning I said to myself, “A white accent table would look great next to my bed.”
Julie says:

Contemporary, with a sense of humor. For example, I have a sofa right out of the Jetson’s living room. The ultimate criterion for my furnishings is that they make me smile.

The word that best describes my style would be eclectic. Since I decorate with what I like rather than what “goes together”, I end up with a little bit of everything. I’m all about comfort over style.

My decorating style is Shabby Chic, and I didn’t know it until I first saw Rachel Ashwell on TV shopping for hidden treasures at a flea market to decorate a restaurant for a celebrity. I started adding pieces of her Shabby Chic furniture in my bedroom that look lovely with my grandmother’s handsewn quilts along with the Shabby Chic accessories. I recently moved to the southwest, so this lovely piece with the turquoise color would add a perfect hint of southwest flair to my growing collection. Thank you!

Lots of hand me downs, but I love a clean somewhat modern look for the main rooms, and more old fashioned in the bedrooms.

I guess I would say eclectic/antiques. I like antiques and would love to fill my home with some really fine ones. Unfortunately, money, or lack of it, prevents that. So I buy pieces that are in need of TLC and refinish to my taste.

If I see a piece I like, the challange is where do I fit it in? Some pieces are new some are old. I love that look!! I would use this piece in my dining room. It would be just perfect!!!!

I have a very eclectic style because I had to find a way to work in my antique pieces that are meaningful to me. So, for instance, I have an antique oak table, but white leather parsons chairs around it and a large drum pendant lamp above the table. It looks “lived in” which is way better than everything looking pristine and brand new!
