Marlo Thomas Thrives In ‘Clever Little Lies’

What do you do when you (secretly) learn that your son is cheating on his wife?

You figure out a way to tell him you know, of course, if you’re can’t-keep-a-secret Alice, a well-to-do Connecticut woman, appealingly played by Marlo Thomas in Clever Little Lies, a new off-Broadway comedy.

Marlo keeps us chuckling, and guessing, throughout the charming one-act play, written by Joe DiPietro. From the moment Alice learns from her husband, Bill (Greg Mullavey), that their son (George Merrick), a new dad, is having an affair with his 23-year-old personal trainer, she hatches a plan to set things straight.

When Billy and his unsuspecting wife Jane (Kate Wetherhead) come over for coffee and cake, Alice manages to teach her philandering son a thing or two, and reveals a big secret about herself, at the same time. Greg and George are convincing as father and son, and Kate is perfectly cast as the trusting young wife and new mother.

You feel like part of the family as this cast of four lets you into their home and hearts. (We also must add that Marlo looks absolutely marvelous!)
