Get a laser peel and follow it up with Obagi products, my medical esthetician is in Orlando, FL and I stop and see her whenever I am in town. She did a laser peel that took a decade off of my face and also, use sunscreen (50 spf) under your makeup every day. 90% of sun damage is what we get through the car window and walking around–and it is cumulative over a lifetime. A laser peel gets most of it so use the sunscreen after to protect the work!

I believe you should discuss this with a doctor not a guru. The melanin in your skin can change with time, hormones and sun exposure. If you have uneven color and texture due to something dangerous or unknown it’s best you consult a physician.

I have oily skin and tend to break out, so I’m always concerned about serums and creams. Do you think this would break me out?

Hi Vicki, I agree with mcmillmm on many levels. Look for a Board Certified Dermatologist and research and interview to find the best one for your needs.

However, there are some simple treatments that you can look into that will improve the issues you are asking about. There are a variety of laser treatments and facial peels that can give you amazing results without doing something drastic. There is a book by Kate Somerville out called Complexion Perfection where she gives very specific detail about the various treatments, how they are done, what they involve, recovery time etc. And, she shows several befire/afters detailing what treatment each person had. I highly recommend checking out the book!

Thank you for this, Kari. Yes, good advice from you and mcmillmm. Will definitely read the book you recommend — sounds like a great starting point. I am thinking about lasers and peels as those appear to be the procedures that will help hugely. So many different types of each and it sounds like Kate Somerville’sbook will be useful in learning about the differences. Many thanks!

That is exactly why I love that book – she explains each type of peel and laser treatment and what to expect or not to expect and recovery etc. You’ll find it a great resource. Glad I could help!

I’m not an expert, so I can’t give you the BEST doc and treatment, but you’re doing the right thing by ASKING! While I don’t have a magical cure for you, someone on this site has had wonderful results, and I’m sure you’ll hear from them soon. In the meantime, start by asking your own doctor for advice. And, if you see a woman with beautiful skin, I’m sure she’d love to hear your compliments, and why wouldn’t she pass along her “secrets” to great skin? I’d be flattered!
I do highly recommend starting with the basics: lots and lots of water, keeping your skin clean and moisturized, and eat good food – limit the fried foods (from the lips to the pores!), and eat foods rich in antioxidants -fruits (low acid – they cause blemishes) and veggies. You may find that changing your diet and routine alone will generate great results in your appearance – making the rest a lot easier, and a whole lot less expensive!
All the while, remember; you are a most beautiful creation – by God Himself!

Thanks, mcmillmm. Great advice — you are so right that diet and good skin care go a long way to great skin. And a bit of inner peace never hurts either!
