When we want to get away, we go to Laughlin, Nevada. There is plenty to do there very inexpensively, including movies, shopping, antique cars, dining either in restaurants or all-you-can-eat buffets, the river to leisurely ride on. And, of course, gambling…hey, you don’t have to spend much on penny slot machines! With the present economy, the fabulous hotels are begging people to come stay with them. All the excitement of Las Vegas without the cost. A room is only $29 a night, if you can believe that!

Lake Austin Spa in Austin, Miraval in Arizona or Las Vegas (great hotels, spas, restaurants, entertainment & shopping)!

I’m absolutely in love with Charleston – great food, great bars, interesting culture, beautiful architecture, local color, wonderful beaches and of course shopping, especially if you get off the “beaten path” and get into some great antique stores.
Another great weekend we have done is a cruise (I know it’s sounds pricey but check it out you can find great deals) We did a “Sister’s Cruise” everyone brings their sister. Get a group of friends and have each one invite their sisters in blood or spirit. Great way to meet new people and on a cruise IMO the ore the merrier.
    Enjoy

If you love history, nature and an incredible spa experience, I’d highly recommend the Bedford Springs Resort, in Bedford, PA! The resort has been there for 200 years and recently underwent the most incredible refurbishing you’ve ever seen. Everything was painstakingly restored, down to matching original paint colors, furnishing and carpet designs. Presidents are among the historical guests who have stayed there. The mineral springs still flow and provide water for the indoor spa pool. The food is wonderful…and the best part is…you’ll truly feel you’ve stepped back in time while there. Check out their website at http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/BedfordSprings.aspx?cid=sd_psg_g-pitbsr. Oh…and if you play golf..the course is gorgeous! 😉

If you want to be extravagant, Paris! Or a fab spa like Ojai in California.

Gotta agree with Pamm. Chicago for shopping, art, architecture, food and jazz. Andy’s Jazz Club, the walking tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work in Oak Park, the architecture boat tour, Institute of Art etc. The Kimpton hotels there are extremely woman-friendly with an evening wine hour, very safe and nice too, moderately priced.

If you can afford a plane ticket to Santa Fe, I think that it is the best girly weekend vacation spot in the world. The time of year is unimportant. We used a timeshare exchange agent to find a good place for us to stay.

For sister, or girl friend weekends – I love a Spa. Your email does not say what location you are so I’ll assume WA state. Suggest – Harrison Hot Springs and Spa – Canada. This fantastic get-away is just about one hour northest of the border. Beautiful lake – fantastic lodge with a couple restaurants and then a very well regarded Spa!

I never thought about a Canadian spa experience. Maybe that would be a great place to catch and have a little girl time.

I see others asked the same questions of you that I was going to, but I’d also like to know what interests do you share? Do you want a spa like getaway, or urban experience? Nature lovers? – Tannis

We both love nature and history, but an urban experience would be just as fun a different kind of nature.

This will be a very special weekend – nothing like getting away with your sister. My favorite place in the world, especially if you are located on the East Coast is Bermuda – it’s only a 2 hour plane ride, but worlds apart from every day hustle and bustle. I can give you many details if you are interested. I also highly recommend Charleston, SC. It is truly a gem of a tiny city – very historic, absolutely beautiful with fabulous restaurants, beautiful small inns and B&Bs, right on the waterfront. I visit Charleston several times a year and love it every time I go. I can go on and on, so let me know if you want more ideas. If you need mid-America ideas, consider Boulder, Colorado – the most enchanting place that sits at the base of the Rockies. West Coast, go for San Francisco – a great getaway! Let me know if you are interested in any of these and I can give local recommendations! Have fun wherever you land!

Are you thinking of flying to a destination where neither of you live? I’m on the West Coast. I can tell you with great certainty that both of you would surely love California. San Francisco has so much to offer. The Central Coast has rugged scenery, sandy beaches, redwood fore
sts nearly to the ocean, quaint towns to walk and still near to Metropolitan areas. Have you every considered Monterey Bay? I have much info I can give. Is this too far to come? Do your interests include beach fare? Will this be a 3 day long weekend? Many questions for you. Let me know if I can answer more precisely – depending on your answers! Good luck & happy travels with sis! 🙂

Have you ever been to North Carolina’s Outer Banks? It’s beautiful for great walks on the beach, great restaurants, go through the Elizabethan Gardens in nearby Manteo on Roanoke Island… you’ll never forget it.
