I watch everything that goes into my mouth (I even gave up sweets for Lent) and I exercise a bit. How come I can’t lose any weight?

Here’s a few tricks that worked for me. I started drinking a bunch of water – like 100 oz a day. I didn’t eat after 7pm. I exercise 5-6 days a week and I switch up my exercises every couple of weeks so my body doesn’t get used to doing the same thing. I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t eat meat or fish, but if there was candy or any sort of baked good within a 5 mile radius, I would sniff it out and eat it! I still treat myself to chocolate – I just make it the darkest I can find (around 86% cacao) and I don’t eat the whole thing. I also still eat some bread – I just switched from white to a 12 grain. I make sure I eat at least 1200 calories a day – otherwise your body just thinks it’s starving and wont burn off anything you eat. I’ve noticed that it’s much harder to lose weight as I’ve gotten older and it doesn’t take much for me to gain now either…losing weight worked for me by adding more activity and not denying myself things, but making better choices. I still keep a food & water journal because sometimes we don’t realize how many calories we’re taking in until you actually see it in black and white. Once you’ve done that for a couple of weeks, you might ask a dietician to take a look at it and offer some advice. You might also have your doctor test your metabolism and/or thyroid if you feel it might be a medical issue. Good luck!
