how often should an orchid be watered in the cold months and how much?

    I’m assuming you’re talking about orchids that you’re keeping in the house? If so, then watering needs really don’t change. I’m also assuming you’re talking about the common Phalaenopsis orchid. The best way to water them is by watering them thoroughly each time until the water runs through the container. It takes some time for bark medium to soak up the water, so I usually put mine in the sink and let it soak for a bit. Then I let it drain so it’s not sitting in water. This works well if your orchid is in an orchid container with holes in the sides. Let the medium dry almost completely before watering again. If the foliage is getting puckery-looking, you’re not watering often enough. If it starts to turn yellow, you’re probably watering too much. Hope this helps!
