What is the best Caribbean island (or group of islands) to go to? Is a cruise the best way to see this area? Or a combination cruise & land trip?

A cruise will allow you to see several islands AND include your food, entertainment, lodging and transportation. It is a great value. Additionally it exposed you to different places which will help you decide where you may wish to return for a land-based vacations later. I often recommend a cruise for a first visit anywhere.

It really depends on what you are looking for in the way of a vacation. A cruise would allow you to see more than one island, but you would only have a limited amount of time in each port. If you fly to one of the islands you could stay at an all inclusive resort and then take day trips out and about the island. It is difficult to do a combination of the two as the cruise ships do not allow you to cruise one way or part of the way and then get off on an island to stay there, unless you were to fly to a port such as San Juan where cruise ships depart from, this would allow you stay in Puerto Rico either before or after the cruise to the Southern Caribbean. As far as best Caribbean island again it depends on what you are wanting to do on your vacation some islands are better as far as doing adventurous things while others offer fabulous beaches. Depending on how much time you have you could island hop stay a few days on one island and then fly to another one! A cruise is a perfect way to see several Caribbean islands, Eastern or Southern. You have enough time to explore going on shore excursions in the different Ports of Call.
