An excellent book that has been absolutely life-changing for me is Happiness Digest, by E G White. It’s not denominational in nature but is about practical spirituality.

Anything by Pema Chodron is so relevant and easy to read. Try “Start Where You Are.”

Back high school a friend gave me a copy of The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, and I’ve given copies over the years to many friends & nieces & nephews. I still find it a calming thing to read the section related to my current angst and then just ponder.

Could you be a bit more specific? Are you wanting to learn more about a specific religion or several religions? Are you searching for a spiritual “awakening”? Are you looking for something transformative? And please, simply answering “yes” to any or all of these questions will not help me help you. If the answer is “yes” to a question, please elaborate and tell me what you are hoping to find at the end of your journey, and why you are searching. Good luck.

I have been working to improve myself on many levels over the years. I subscribe to a Higher Power but do not have only one name attached. I guess what I’m looking for is a sense of peace and serenity. Now that my family is grown, I feel I need to start focusing on myself and what would bring joy and peace into my life. Does any of this make sense?

I have found that by employing the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoist acceptance, I am learning to accept the journey for what it is: filled with transitions and challenges which work together to make me stronger and more fulfilled. Therefore I would recommend any works that explain Taoism such as Alan Watts’ “Tao: The Watercourse Way”, or Leonard Wiloughbhy’s “Everyday Tao”, Benjamin Hoff’s “The Tao of Pooh”. And, might I be so bold as to suggest my book, “Tao of the Defiant Woman”. I wrote that one specifically to aid me as I journeyed down my own path.

There are so many helpful books about spiritual topics. Consider visiting your local independant booksellar, new age speciality store, or even your public library and simply begin with the books that seem to jump out at you. I have had a book that I needed at the time fall off the bookshelf and land at my feet. How is that for paying attention to the Universe?
Simply relax. You will get exactly what you need when you need it.
    Enjoy the journey. Pam
