I contra dance an average of 8 1/2 hours a week. I just danced 19 1/2 hours from last Thurs. to Monday. Why is it I still gain weight?

Remember muscle weighs more than fat per surface area. If you take a pound of muscle and a pound of fat – the fat will look bigger and the muscle will be more compact.

So true…muscle weighing more than fat per surface area. However, what’s around my waist is not muscle 🙁

I love contradancing too! I wish I had access to it 8.5 hours a week! And it sounds like you had a great dance weekend. You might be gaining weight from a couple of sources: (1) with all that dancing, it’s tempting to eat more than you think you are; those weekends often have a lot of really good food around. (2) if you’re not hydrating enough, your body may be holding on to what it’s got. (3) muscles! They weigh more than fat. Keep an eye on the balance of calories in and energy expended, though–that’s my guess. (I know from experience how easy it is to enjoy all that wonderful food!)
