Last year, I made a major dietary change and cut out all grains and most sugars from my diet, thinking that would finally kickstart some weightloss. Now just turned 50, I’m actually a few pounds heavier and just tested pre-diabetic! What gives??

I would consider seeing an endocrinologist. You may be predisposed to type II diabetes, it couldn’t hurt to have it checked out.

Why cut out grains? Just add some whole grains in.

Thanks. I had always one whole grains before, and they were not the answer for my weight loss. While whole grains are definitely an improvement, eating Primal means cutting all grains plus most sugars. Cutting out grains really wasn’t the problem – I’m just stumped why such a big dietary change resulted in no weight loss.

Just cutting out one food group doesn’t mean it isn’t compensated in other foods you eat. Write down all the foods and exact amounts for a few days – it may be an eye opener. In fact, just keeping track helps people lose weight.

You’re so right. I’ve used the LoseIt app on my iPhone for a year now, really shows you in black-and-white not only your calories, but tracks all of your nutrients (fat, carb, sugar, protein, fiber, etc)
