Hi. Would love opinions on the carousel’s on my first website. I am thinking it would be better to separate the fine line jewelry and fashion line on two pages. www.zeejewelry.com Just started facebook and I plan on selling from the website in the near future.

Most astute shoppers want to know exactly the parts and pieces to the desired products. Being able to do close-ups with a magnifying glass helps.
I like to know about the clasp. If there’s a collection, I like to see it grouped together with it’s coordinating pieces. On many sites I see items separated into casual and dress and categories like earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces.
Have you been profiled in magazines or newspaper, because that carries a lot of weight and could be a tab. I like bio’s and feel it makes the whole experience warmer.

Hi Sunn, so far I have only sold in stores, not from the web site. Stores insist on “line sheet’s” “look book” and do you have a web site? That’s why I didnt go into the details. Now I am building a web store. While this is being done I have used the advice given to practice on facebook with details. No, I have not be profiled in mags or newspapers..I am a no name right now. I should start blogging…I am not a great writer. We will see.
Thank you so much for your imput. I appreciate it! Allie

P.S…..Stores do not give the artist credit. Not the stores that I have sold in. I would remain a no name if I stick with this. Having a web store hopefully will change this. Like I said before…a new can of worms has opened up….I am learning a lot about promoting myself.
I am gathering information. Like I said, facebook is very good learning experience. To be honest, the PR can be overwhelming right now. I dont know exactly what I am doing. I try to divy my time between beading, photography and computer.

I do not have a website, but go on lots of them to look at fashion and jewelry. I click on the blog tab for retail stores which seem to be updated at various times, but at least monthly with what’s new or a tip.

It’s a great idea to have a blog. I plan on offering incentives. Right now the site needs major changes. A web store is the priority right now. I am beholden to the web designer as to when it will be done. I am excited about this. I think store first so I can blog about it.
      Thanks so much! Allie

I went to your website and love the jewelry. As a collector of vintage and antique jewelry, I will tell you what I look for when I purchase online. Clear pictures that can be enlarged for details; a description that includes the materials in each item and the measurements: how long are the earrings, how long is the necklace, etc. You are a very talented woman, good luck on your venture!

Hi Jz, All your advice is so true. If I ever get my store up and running…this is exactly how I am doing it. A few very good pictures of the item that can also be enlarged. A great detailed description. Right now the web site is just for showing what I make. Thank you for the compliment! I need to work on networking so people can find my jewelry. Much Appreciated, Allie

I just looked at your website and I think the jewelry is beautiful. Are you planning to have bracelets and rings at any point? I would like to know the materials used for the fashion line. Also regarding the carousel I noticed that depending on how you place your cursor determines the speed at which it goes. If you just let the cursor “sit” in one spot the carousel goes slowly. If you move the cursor left or right it moves faster.

Thank you very much! The materials for “fashion line” Vermeil and semi precious stones. The words, fine and fashion is a mistake. I was separating more elegant versus fun. I am working on a web store which I am hoping will be up within a month. Will not have those words. For now, using facebook to show more. No bracelets yet, I cannot make rings. Allie

beautiful jewelry…very nice materials in both lines…was wondering if you will be adding a sterling silver line for those of us who wear a lot of white gold or silver…also, the carousel moved fast for me too, and I have a slow computer–Good luck to you! Can’t wait to shop for some of these items!

Thank you! Yes, we will be adding sterling silver. In fact you just gave me an idea. I am making one of a kind pendants. I have 2 on facebook. I will make one wrapped in silver. It might be really pretty. Thanks for the advice! Will get the carousels fixed and other mistakes. I want to have different price points for a web store. Working hard to achieve this.

A runnaway carousel is not good at all. I am happy to know that it’s a problem. I am making a list of all the suggestions here for the web guy.
All the mistakes will be fixed after the holidays. Thank you for the compliment! Kindest Regards, Allie

Hi – I just had a look at your webpage. Quite sophisticated BUT the carousel moves way too quickly – can you somehow slow it down so we can at least peruse the items for sale???

Beautiful website and lovely jewelry! Not listing pricing is going to put people off, though, as few like to write or call when they should have the info at their fingertips when they shop online. I understand you not wanting to have your prices undercut by competition; however, online merchandising is about reaching the most consumers and watching to see what your competition is doing so that you can appropriately compete. I’m afraid you are going to compete in an area where competition is cutthroat already. You are not going to be able to compete on Tiffany’s level, even if your jewelry is as nice as theirs is. I buy fine jewelry a few times a year and the deals I can find online today are outstanding, even with the price of gold at over $1662/oz! List your prices! You will winnow out those who simply can’t afford what you offer and you will pique the interest of those who can. I do envy your sense of style and adventure going into a tough online sales area. I’m too chicken to do something this daring and I admire you for doing it so well!

Once I set up a page for selling, I will add everything you said. Right now I supply two stores. I am trying to make jewelry inbetween for a web store.
I think about price points too. True I am never going to compete with the big guys, that was never my thing. I love what I do. The women who will buy from me have to like artsy. If you have the time, look on facebook. There you will see more of the kind of thing for a web store. Pearl pendant necklace…artsy. Pearl chain necklace with lemon quartz drop/moss aqua drops…some other necklaces not on the website.
Yes, I understand everything you told me. I really appreciate your imput. Sure it’s tough and that’s ok. Thank you so much! Allie

Answering your queries… Post any and every place you can! The more you get your site out there, the more people will look at it! It’s funny you should mention the pearl pendant necklace, as that’s the one that immediately caught my eye! It is ever so elegant and can be worn with anything! I’ve a velvet riding jacket I wear with skinny jeans and a silk shirt and this necklace would kill! btw: I love artsy and artsy people! I can’t draw stick people but my sister has three paintings in museums! You artsy types are who make our world beautiful and I treasure all of you! Do stress the uniqueness and elegance of your jewelry. There are people like me who will buy one elegant piece over ten pieces of costume stuff that is essentially junk. We don’t want anything we’ll see everyone else wearing and we like quality. We’re your target consumer!

I think your jewelry is lovely. I especially like your fashion earrings. I’m glad you are still working on the text because that was one of the things I found missing. I wanted to know what kind of metal was in the earrings, how long some of the necklaces are, etc. I also think it might be helpful to include close-ups of some of the beads in the fine line necklaces. Even the larger size photo didn’t give me the detail I thought I would want if I were shopping for jewelry. And include pictures of the clasps; especially for the shorter necklaces so women can see what kind of clasp it is. If your selection gets larger, you might want to separate earrings from necklaces and/or group certain colors or types of stones together. And you may want to make earrings to go with the necklaces in the fine line. One of my friends who wears a lot of necklaces with stones like yours always has complementary earrings made to go with them. Best of luck with your jewelry business!

Hi. Obviously this is just my opinion but I went to your website. The jewelry is gorgeous by the way but had I not known from your post that the fashion line existed, I never would have clicked it…I would put a fair representation of each on the front page.

First of all, I just wanted to say that I think you’ve done a great job with your site. The look is elegant and clean. After viewing your jewelry in both the fine and fashion lines, I think you need to find a way to keep them distinctly separate. Coming from a goldsmithing background, I think of “fine” jewelry as anything with 14, 18 or 22kt gold rather than vermeil used in the piece, and “fashion” as anything that is forward but with a lower price point (using vermeil, gold or silver plating, sterling, or sometimes even certain base metals. Since you have so many pieces, maybe you could highlight the two different lines on the main page but give each line a separate page where the whole line can be viewed. Hope that is just a little helpful! I have many friends who have successful jewelry sites and this is one of the things that make their sites user friendly.

Thank you very much for your insight. Even I get confused between fine and fashion. My “fashion line” is a lower price point. The high price of gold, I use different metals to offset the semi precious stone prices with the “Fine Line.” I am learning so much.
      Your idea is very helpful.
Verbiage on the site is stll being worked on…it’s not my thing. I find that very hard to word correctly. Thank you for the compliment! Much Appreciated, Allie
