I would like to know about colors for an Ivory skinned Red Head?? I used to be a winter, they say for redheads to not wear black though… I do find I’m able to wear browns now whereas they weren’t so cool before????

A nice shade of emerald green maybe ? Complimentary colors for red? Check out the color wheel.

Hey StyleGoesStrong (love the name!) My entire color makeover system is based on ones present hair color. Your hair frames your face – your eyes, your smile – so you want to work it to pull your look totally together. We all love black, so when you wear throw on some fab gold jewelry and warm up the eyes, cheeks & lips. Some of your best color choices are teal, forest green, eggplant, pumpkin and the warm earthy browns. Try substituting pure white for champagne, especially if you wear it with black. Hope this helps! Me, too. I wear earth tones, and white is stunning, with a green crystal earring. I do not like orange, won’t go near it.

Yes, brown can be very chic and looks terrific if mixed with green, yellow, coral, mustard, rust. Look for what I call Hersey bar brown 🙂
I love to mix that hue of brown with black and tie together with a great necklace or scarf. Think Thanksgiving colors. All the best,Lori Ann

Did you know there’s an updated version to the old “Color Me Beautiful” system? Kinda refines the original and takes it a few steps further. I’ve found the new book to be really helpful:
    http://www.amazon.com/Color-Me-Confident-Change-Your/dp/0600614999/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1332187951&sr=8-5
Don’t have the book in front of me at the moment, but I believe there are six categories now instead of four and it does give advice on how all groups can wear black (or something very close to it).

At home now, looking at the book. As a redhead, you’re automatically “warm.” If you have darker, auburn hair and brown or hazel eyes, you’re a “warm and soft.” If you have lighter hair that’s more ginger or strawberry blonde and light green or blue eyes, you’re a “warm and clear.” There’s a set of warm colors that apply to both, then additional colors that are added whether you’re soft or clear.

The general warm set includes chocolate brown, charcoal grey, pewter grey, bronze, taupe, stone, moss, sage, soft white and cream as your neutrals.

Other colors in the set include golden yellow, lime green, mint green, teal, aqua, coral, tangerine, orange-red, to name a few.

One of my girlfriends is just like you in coloring. She ONLY wears the southwestern colors, but I think she so limits herself. I think anyone can wear black, especially black & white, so please don’t deny yourself this wonderful basic. She does and I’m not certain she looks as smart as she should. You know? The other night on American Idol Jennifer had a bright orange dress with bright pink lipstick; someone trendier than me thought this looked really great. Go to one of your department stores and try on a bunch of new stuff, and take a new picture of yourself. From hairstyle to makeup. Hope this helps.

Yes,browns are great. Good browns were always “cool” but hard to find. Add grays(especially charcoal gray) and taupes and beiges to mix a neutral palette (you can wear black on your lower half and accessories of course). Also greens ( olive, grass), navy, and oranges would be good additions.
