I am planning a girlfriend trip this summer and was wondering if anyone stayed at an historic hotel in Charleston South Carolina? Which hotel do you suggest and why?

Earlier this year we stayed at the Francis Marion Hotel (for the Wine/Food Fest) and the Vendue Inn, and both were lovely. Ask for a room with a good view at the Francis Marion, as the first room we were shown had a view of a brick wall! The Vendue Inn has a roof-top bar which was fun; their “inside rooms” (no windows!) are the cheapest… You might also go on iloveinns.com (which is also American Historic Inns) or bedandbreakfast.com and look for an historic inn or B&B… Charleston has tons of truly GREAT restaurants, BTW!!!!!

I was just in Charleston, SC. We stayed out on the Isle of Palm (not historic) at the Wild Dunes. It was lovely to combine the beach with Charleston and only about a 15 minute drive from the visitors center.
BTW, the Visitors Center in Charleston is the best I have ever seen and could recommend TONS of Historic Hotels. Its also a great place to park and grab the free shuttle!

The Mills House is historic and well-located. It is full of antique collectibles.
