I just bought a cute new pair of sandal that are like ankle boots. What do I wear them with? I might add that I have short, heavy legs… 🙁

Hi KBush125: Bravo to you for stepping out with your latest footwear purchase! Not knowing where you live or your daily activities, I do not want to misguide you.
If these sandal boots are the open peep toe, closed shaft, back adjustable strap with a chunky heel that I am envisioning (black or brown color?)…I would suggest keeping your lower half of your figure and look monotone. What I mean by that….if you want to wear them now- wear them with black tailored cotton/lycra trousers. For fall, you can add a textured or opaque seamless hosiery.
Pants are the new “in” item for Fall…finding the right pair, with shorter, heavy legs requires a difffernt answer. Did I answer your question?

Thank you! Yes, you have all been very helpful. They are not chunky heal but flat. I have had back surgery recently and heels are not an option. I bought them because they are a bit out of my comfort range and I loved them. My legs are heavy but not “huge”. I love to keep current–without looking like I am trying to be too young.

Hi KBush125: Oops! I was incorrect about the heel height. Knowing that your sandal boots are flat and heels are not an option, you certainly are to be applauded for stepping out of your comfort zone. Darker slim trousers, darker jeans and/or a darker bottom colored summer maxi dress would be my recommendation for you. If your pants are slimmer and darker, a contrasting color top will brighten your face and smile. Typically on women under 5’4″ I recommend no more than two different colors, textures, etc. You want to look longer and leaner- but keep comfort and looking pretty as part of your self image. You may want to also consider the closed toe “slipper” flat shoe which is trending for fall as another option. I wish you a complete back surgery recovery!

A pair of jeans or trousers. Since they are more substantial they will bring attention to your legs and make them look heavier.

Given that these sandals are flats, I would only wear with a long flowing skirt. Perhaps with full length slacks/jean if the same color but you will need to judge that based on look. My recommendation in the future is to avoid an ankle bootie sandal or any kind of ankle wrap ESPECIALLY when it’s a flat if you have short heavy legs. A much more flattering look, would be a wedge or platform wedge with any kind of heel. Just because a shoe is CUTE, doesn’t mean they are the right shoe for you. Good Luck!

Consider a rolled-up (just to ankle) jean or casual pant going into fall, kbush. Or, a maxi dress or skirt when wearing during remainder of the summer season. Avoid wearing your new sandals with garments above ankle length unless the bootie and/or your skirt/shorts are of the same color value as your legs. With contrasting colors, you’ll risk your legs appearing shorter and wider. See the difference here http://bit.ly/InTheirCloset (You want the effect that Kelly Ripa has, center image. The high contrast of black-on-light-skin seen on Carey Mulligan, left, is best on long, lean legs.)

Still the same advice, kbush! Even more so, in fact, since you don’t have the elongating benefit a heel sometimes provides.

I recommend any slacks or jeans, either capri length or rolled to just the top of the sandals, and just loose enough that they don’t cling to your calves.
    Enjoy your purchase!

Without a doubt, slacks/jeans of the correct length, or a long maxi skirt. Nothing else no matter what anyone else says. big hug to you…

Let’s see…you have many options to wear the sandals with such as jeans and long sun dresses. One of the best options would be mid-thigh and bermuda shorts (hit between right above and right below your knees), would also look good on you and look great with the sandals.
