Before I let my hair go gray, I was a “Vivid Autumn” the brights and darks of my palette were best. Now, a lot of the colors that looked great on me look terrible. My gray is a warm, almost yellow gray. What colors can I wear now?

Firstly, I’d talk with my hair stylist about removing that yellow in your gray and designing a new style for your face. Gray hair that is yellowish tends to look really drab. Once you are silver, you will find that you can still have your “Vivid Autumn” palette! I am completely silver, porcelain fair skinned, have a round face and I wear glasses. I changed my frames to gray to accent my hair. I wear a lot of gray, red and black but I also wear the “jewel box” colors (emerald green, ruby red, etc.) and they look terrific with gray hair. Whites and yellows in the Spring and Summer tend to wash you out so I’d stay away from those. Soft blues, pinks and pale grays look terrific! Once you embrace your silver and your new hairstyle, you will never look back and you can wear nearly everything you wish! Welcome to the “Silver Fox” club!

I updated my profile picture and you can get a better idea of the color of my hair. It’s far less yellow than it appeared in my former profile shot. Thanks.

FAR less yellow but even a tinge will make it look drab. You are SO cute and should celebrate your great gray hair because your face shows you as much younger than your gray hair! Lucky you!

Celebrate those assets! Your neck and your chest are flawless and, from what I can tell, so is your face! I say you’re one lucky lady! I have to cover my chest because it isn’t nearly as attractive as yours and my neck isn’t either! That v-neck you are wearing in the photo really compliments you and that black brings out silver hair. Quite a combo! We “ladies of a certain age” need to celebrate one another more and compliments that are factual rather than something we say to be nice are so good to receive!

Hi Maraleung, You are totally spot on! When your hair color changes, you need to change up the shades for wardrobe & makeup to pull it all together. Since your hair is a warm gray, or champagne, versus a silver gray, some of the shades I suggest are coral, turquoise, camel, ivory & orchid. FOF is carrying my swatch books & mini makeup kits in their shop. Check out the color group for “Warm Blondes” and let me know what you think! Look forward to hearing from you!
