It depends on the cause. If from allergies, surgery is not helpful. If you have always had puffy lower lids, transconjunctival blepharoplasty is idea – the incision is hidden inside the eyelid and does not show. If you also have loose skin, a pinch blepharoplasty with fat trimming and release is often best.

The eyes are the windows to the soul. All too often, however, they seem to reveal exhaustion. The very delicate skin around the eyes tends to get crepey and puffy due to fatigue and stress. Eyelid surgery has become one of my most popular procedures. I also performs scarless eyelid surgery, a technique that involves making a tiny incision inside the lower lid of the eye. The tissue heals so quickly that there’s no need for stitches and hence, no scarring.

Topical creams can reduce some lines and wrinkles around the eyes almost immediately, even without surgery. Topical creams containing pentapeptides and antioxidants help reduce the appearance of fine lines around the delicate eye area, increasing collagen production and reducing dark circles and puffiness over time.

Another effective non-surgical option is Thermage, which can tighten the skin around the eyes. Thermage is a non-invasive (no incision!) treatment that can tighten skin and stimulate your body to make healthier collagen—the building block that provides structure to your skin. Fast and easy, Thermage requires no downtime from normal activities.

Lower lid bags are commonly the result of fat protruding outside of the eyesocket. Depending on the patient and the anatomy, surgery may help significantly with one’s appearance if this is the issue. However, other causes may be a thicker or larger muscle, excess skin, fluid accumilation, allergies, and even lack of sleep as you mentioned. A combination of these may also be happening. A board certified plastic surgeon would need to evaluate your specific problem to be able to detemine the best approach. Hope this was helpful.
