Hello, i am 27 years old and i weight 135 pounds and my height is 5″2. I will be having liposuction in my arms, stomach, love handles and upper back. My question is, should i lose weight prior to my surgery? And also lets assume i do not lose weight prior to my surgery, how much weight will i approximately lose? I know you can not tell me exactly because its different for different people but can you please estimate? And will i continue to lose more weight after my surgery? And what are the chances of having loose skin? And lastly…if i was to have loose skin after the surgery, should the plastic surgeon correct that at no cost to me? Thank you so much for replying

Lots of questions that I really want you to discuss with your plastic surgeon prior to the procedure. Having said that, what I will try to answer is what happens in general. I prefer to have patients be at a stable weight prior to the procedure… if you are on a real plan to lose weight I would have you do it before the surgery. The amount of weight you may lose depends on the amount of liposuction… usually in the range of, at most, a few pounds but that weight comes off in the desired locations. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure but a shaping and contour type of surgery. In response to the loose skin issue… yes, it can happen after you do liposuction and depends on the skin tone of the areas you are treating. It is NOT totally predictable and as such I try to give patients an estimate as to what my expectations are. Usually there is a fee involved if there needs to be a skin resection but this is something I strongly encourage you to discuss with your plastic surgeon well before you get near an OR. Hope the helps.
