SWEETHOME SAID:

I had gastric by-pass surgery 4 years ago and I have a lot of loose skin. My surgeon told me that I could never find a doctor to remove the skin because I’m on Medicare. What do I do ?

In general, the plastic surgery part of this is elective and usually considered cosmetic in nature. As such, insurance companies, including Medicare, do not typically cover cosmetic surgery. Most offices would have you sign a form saying you would be responsible for all fees if Medicare fails to cover it. This would include the plastic surgeon’s fee, the anesthesiologist’s fee, the hospital fee, and any other additional costs, which may include additional surgery for a complication or a revision.
