The answer to your question lies a bit in the nature of a platelet count of 80,000. (I am assuming your count of “80” is 80,000) There is a real risk and danger to operating on someone with a low platelet count. Normal, depending on the lab doing the testing, is somewhere around 150,000 to 350,000. If there is a reason that your platelet count is low that is correctable or will improve then surgery could be considered. Having said that, certainly your plastic surgeon would want to discuss any plans with a hematologist and if you are aware of your platelet count, you likely already have visited a hematologist. I would first discuss your thoughts about a tummy tuck with the hematologist and get their thoughts and then make a good decision about whether to visit a local plastic surgeon. Hope this helps!

The first thing I would want to know is what is causing your thrombocytopenia (low platelet count). This is something your primary care doctor would need to work up, and he/she may refer you to a hematologist. Some causes of low platelet count are temporary or reversible, while others may require medication or surgery. I would want this to be sorted out before you proceed with any elective procedure.

I would recommend a work-up by a hematologist to discover the cause of your decreased platelet count before proceeding with any elective surgery.

With a proper work up for your low platelet count, you could have a tummy tuck. Technically your platelet count is good enough but my personal preference would be for a higher number for elective procedures such as a tummy tuck. Your local surgeon should help you through this process.
