I want a tummy tuck so my clothes fit better after losing 30 plus pounds. However I have been told that I need to have a BMI less than 30. I am 36 now. Why do I need a BMI less than 30? I have had 4 C-sections and maintains a big lower abdomen.
I have a large series of liposuction patients with BMI>30, as high as 42. If you want to have your clothes fit better and want to minimize risk, you should consider liposuction as a first stage. A tummy tuck may put you into a complication risk of 80% or more!
In general a BMI over 30 would put you at a greater risk for complications from surgery. But a BMI of 36 could be acceptable based on height, weight, and other risk factors. The best thing to do is to schedule a consultation for an exam and discussion for your tummy tuck.
