FOF Deborah Lippmann has cut and colored the claws of Cher, Martha Stewart and an impressive roster of other A-list celebs.
After dreams of becoming a jazz diva didn’t materialize, Deborah enrolled in cosmetology school where she discovered her true talent — nails.
Then, she nailed it in Phoenix, where the city’s socialites lined up at her manicure chair. But, it wasn’t enough, Deborah had stars in her eyes.
She tried her hand in New York City where by a stroke of luck, an Allure editor ended up in her chair. “One of the best manicurists in the country” wrote the editor after her life-changing mani. Editors at Vogue later dubbed Deborah a “mega-manicurist.”
From there, Deborah’s career took off. She gained a reputation not only for her magical manicures but for mixing custom colors so celebs such as Kate Winslet, Reese Witherspoon, Renee Zellweger and Penelope Cruz could have unique nail shades when accepting their Oscars.
Deborah continues to do manicures for top clients, but she also spends her days crafting colors for her award-winning line of lacquer.

I tend to do my own nails, and have picked up a bunch of nail art. but if there’s a special event, like a wedding or a huge party, I tend to go ahead and leave it to the “experts”, and book myself an appointment with my manicurist! 😉

When my budget allowed me to go have professional manicures done, I loved that time and of course being pampered is great. Now my daughter Sherri does my manicures. She had a passion to go to school and learn makeup, nails, and facials. She will graduate soon, so one night my two daughter and I decided to invite over our friends and have a “Lets pamper ourselves party” it has become a monthly event and what fun. Someone gave me a gift certificate for a massage at a beautiful local spa and I asked if it was okay to trade it in for a few manicures and a pedicure and they said yes they would be happy to accommodate me! As wonderful as a massage would have felt that day, the benefits of a manicure and pedicure can last sometimes for even a few weeks. I rarely treat myself to the professional services, but on occasion, it’s reallly nice to indulge and then it gets me in the mood to keep my nails pretty with lovely products I can by myself.

I usually do my own manicures unless my cuticles are in really rough shape, then I let a proferssional handle it. Professional pedicures, however, are something I treat myself to regularly. During the winter months when I don’t wear sandles, I get a pedicure (buff, no polish, to allow the nails to breath for a while) about once every 5-6 weeks. In the warmer months, I get one just about every 2 weeks with a fun color.

I visit my manicurist every 2 weeks without fail, and have done so as long as I have worked in public relations – where you always have to look good. And, living in Honolulu most of my adult life and the gorgeous sandals a gal can wear on a daily basis that compliments my wardrobe and where I live – having a pedi is a MUST! I love having my nails done but for the last 4 yrs. we have been remodeling a house and so I rarely do them as it doesn’t last. I usually do my own nails. Red nails always make me feel glamourous!

Even though I am in a pool daily (I teach aquatics) and the water is hard on my nails, I keep them polished and looking nice. It is important to my overall image.

I get regular manicures/pedicures, every two weeks. I have gel acrylic on my nails due to a ridge in one nail that splits from tip to base of my nail. Don’t know what I would do without my manicurist. She is a treasure.

My daughter Summer has had a talent for doing manicure’s since she was 10 years old. My mother-in-law who shares the same talent taught her how when she was teaching her how to count. They both get a ton of compliments everywhere we go. Not only do I save money but sometimes I get a pedicure too and Summer is saving the money for college.

I started getting manicures about 25 years ago when my daughter was an infant — didn’t find the time to do it myself after self-manicuring for so many years and preferred someone else with a steadier hand giving me a “mini-vacation”—yup!…saw it as a mini-vacation and a way of pampering myself while my husband took care of our daughter for a few hours. I finally graduated to mani-pedis after about a year or so of just manis. I’m now 62 and haven’t missed my twice monthly mani-pedis; in fact, I trained my daughter from a very early age to pamper herself with mani-pedis—even when one is frazzled and stressed, a mani-pedi makes you feel dressed up!

I cannot imagine living without my manicures. I had never even had one until my daughter treated me to nail extensions when I was about 65. The whole procedure just rocked my world. My nails hurt for several day and it has been only after trying many manicurist that I found the perfect person for me. I have often said that learning to care for my nails has kept me from looking like a very old bag lady! (I am 69 now!)
I am a believer that this is a talent that only a few possess. Congratulations to Deborah…the mega manicurist!
