{Giveaway} Win a room makeover blueprint

Win a room makeover blueprint from FOF interior design genius Teri Brajewski, of TWB Design.  Teri will get a sense of your style, space and budget over the phone, then provide a custom plan for your room re-do including layout, color suggestions and links to suggested furniture, lighting and accessories. To enter, comment below and answer: Which room would you re-do?

Thank you for entering. This contest is now closed.

Have you ever wished your home had museum-caliber decor? Hire a former Metropolitan Museum of Art employee. No, really.

After FOF Teri Brajewski graduated from art school, she worked in top New York art galleries before spending five years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But for the past twenty years, Teri has been using her eye for design to spruce up homes and commercial spaces. She’s worked on a 12,000-square-foot residence in Connecticut, a trendy 2,400-square-foot loft in downtown Manhattan, a top NYC law office–and everything in between. She stopped to chat with us on her way home from a  job in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn where she’s helping design a 1900s-schoolhouse-turned-apartment!

What was working at the Met like?
Oh, fabulous — I worked under the director, Philippe de Montebello, a large figure in the art world.

How did you make the transition from museum art to interior design?
I went to F.I.T. and got a degree in interior design.

What is your design style?
I’m really flexible, but I definitely identify myself as a colorist. I take what my clients want to do, or the direction of style they like, and clarify that. There’s such a vast amount of choices when it comes to design. I narrow down the selections.

Tell me about a project you are really proud of.
I designed a home for an FOF in East Hampton. It’s a modest house, and although it’s not so close to the beach, I brought that casual beach flavor into the home. I did it in a subtle way with corals and teals. I designed it to be very light, airy and open.

Where do you shop for furnishings?
I try to source American-made furniture when I can. I like a lot of the small shops in Brooklyn such as Rico on Atlantic Avenue and Wud Furniture–a Brooklyn-based furniture designer. I go to the Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York in May and the High Point Market in North Carolina.

Where do you get design inspiration?
I look at the Remodelista blog. It’s like a breath of fresh air. I also recently checked out Emma’s Blog — she’s a little more international. Until I get an iPad, I’m more into magazines. I love Interior Design Magazine–more of a trade publication, although it’s available on news stands. I also loved Metropolitan Home. I was so upset when it folded. Dwell and Metropolis are also favorites.

What’s a common design mistake you see?
Some people feel like everything needs to match. It needs to flow and work together, but you can mix up colors and patterns. I have a sofa with greens and browns in a very small weave, but the pillows are black and coral which go with my coral ottoman. Take that leap in color and texture.

Enter to win a a room makeover blueprint from FOF interior design genius, Teri Brajewski of TWB Design. One FOF will win a phone consultation plus a custom design plan for their room. To enter, comment below and answer: Which room would you re-do?

(See all our past winners. See official rules. One winner is chosen at random from all those who ask a question. Contest closes July 28, 2011.)

I desperately need some help with my living room/kitchen. These two room comprise 3/4 of my first floor and the layout has always provided a challenge for us. It has the the bones to be a beautiful space and over the 10 years that we have lived her I have imaged it a hundred different ways. I long to use it to its potential but currently the living room has turned into the room that you get stuck in if somebody gets to the downstairs family room first and are involved in watching a movie or sports event that you have no interest in! 🙂 Would love the opportunity to have some help – getting one of my daughters out of college and one still attending our finances have always found a different path to take! Hi there. I think my Dining Room is definitely the room I would make over. It has never felt right–I have furniture from my old home (and old marriage–my husband died, after a long and terrible illness, 11 years ago.) We moved to a smaller home, and the furniture is too big–but the shape of the room (a small rectangle) seems to work against a round table I would prefer.) I don’t even know what color to work with–and to make matters worse, I had to move a beautiful, large dresser into the dining room because it was too big to get up the stairs to the second floor. So it’s in the dining room holding silver and tablecloths. And it was my husband’s dresser, which makes it awkward since I am getting remarried this fall, and my fiance has moved in. I desperately need help. Please help me!!

A redo of decor in my center hallway would be ideal. Now it’s mostly bookcases, but a place to put on boots or shoes and baskets to gather goods could help with storage and containment. The front hall leads to the wrought iron stair-rails overlooking a narrow hall going to a back hallway with a door which can be left open. Maybe a carpet with my favorite burgandy color could tie the living room with the dining room.

My great room is sooo difficult to arrange. There are many challenges the greatest of which being that it is the hub of my home and can be seen frm almost every other room. Large French doors, high ceilings, fireplace, and open to foyer with double glass doors…..too many challenges to mention. I have “lived” with it for over seven years – I surrender – I need help!

I am trying to sell my house (Log Cabin) so I can move into a Condo. It would be wonderful to have my bathroom looking bigger than it is but I know what a challange that is. Love to have any room done by such a talented decorator.

I need a house makeover. i never moved into my house properly 10 years ago and it has now been cluttered up by three kids and famiy and friends who send things. I have been overwhelmed and need help. I moved into my house in Oct. 2001 right after 911. At the time I was as a NY police officer working 12 hours a day with no days off. The day of the move the movers did not show and had to pick another in the phone book. Well that did not go well at all and it’s been downhill ever since.

I would redo my kitchen. It needs it. I would like it to look bigger without having to add square feet. It is small but very convenient to cook in tho. It is about 35 years old and need a redo.

I would definitely redo my family room. It is a central room with dining area. It connects to all parts of the house. I would love to see a layout that would flow better than what is there now.

I would like to redo my bedroom. It’s a loft unit and the bedroom is small and there is no room to rearrange the furniture. I would like ideas on how to open up this room.

I would redo my bedroom. It’s where I end up spending most of my time, and it’s rather drab.
