FOF Founder, Geri Brin has a love affair…with leggings!
“They’re comfy, fun to wear and make you feel young. If you wear them right they’re flattering because of the tops and you can hide extra weight on your stomach,” says Geri. “Somehow I managed to live before leggings were trendy and will live after they go out of style, but it’s hard to imagine.”
FOF style expert, Linda Cohen, found 6 ways to wear them while answering the age old legging quandry: “How do I hide my butt?”
Leggings’ Best Friends
“Viscose Tunic Dress” and “Long Duster” in gray by Jarbo, contact for price
“It’s always slimming when a dress ruches around the waist and hip like this. The entire look is long and lean and works for casual or dressy occasions. Add a fun necklace and you can go anywhere.”
“Poet’s Striped Shirt” in brown and white by Gallego Desportes, available at Wendy Foster, $354
“This tunic is very comfortable because it’s cotton poplin. It gives you the feeling of a man’s tailored shirt but in a more creative way. It’s extremely thinning because the lines are vertical.”
“Cade Tunic” by Zero + Maria Cornejo in eucalyptus, $685
“It’s flattering, very lightweight and also good belted. Great for a night out or a dinner date.”
“Veena” Tunic in yellow by Sulu, contact for price
“This handmade embroidered cotton tunic is boho meets preppy, which makes it perfect resort-wear or a statement-maker for a Sunday brunch. Pair with ethnic gold sandals and earrings to complete the look.”
“Long Melange Cardigan” in periwinkle, $198, and “Organic Cotton Shirtdress” in white, $178, both by Eileen Fisher
“I love the idea that with this combo you have two outfits to wear with leggings; a beautiful cardigan with the shirt or a crisp white long shirt on its own. Perfect building blocks for your wardrobe.”
“Linen Chambray” in blue by CP Shades, $174
“It’s hand-washed and garment-dyed so it’s comfortable. It feels like vintage; something you’ve had in your closet forever and wear again and again. And linen is perfect for summer.”
If you love leggings, you’ll go wild for this brand of “Jeggings” (jean leggings).
Miraclebody Leggings, $68
“This premium denim made of cotton and spandex stretches and conforms to the body for comfort and shape.”
“Rules of Thumb”
-According to Linda, look for tops that are longer than 28 inches. “When your arms are at your sides your finger tips should hit the bottom of your shirt,” says Linda.
-“Look for tops in fabrics that are easy and not too clingy.”
-“If something is too big or needs to appear more finished or dressed up, add a belt. Belts that sit below the waist or are a contour shape are most flattering.” Linda’s pick: Loop Belt by Johnny Farah (pictured above)
