“There are three stages for actresses: babe, district attorney, and Driving Miss Daisy,” says Cindy Pearlman, 46, arts and entertainment columnist for the New York Times syndicate. “That’s a very funny line from First Wives Club, and it’s been true. But these days, Hollywood is waking up. There were great, juicy parts in 2010. Not just the put-upon wife who’s watching her husband go off with some twenty-year-old.” Here are Pearlman’s picks for the best FOF performances of 2010:

This is not an easy choice–I finally picked Melissa Leo because of the fantastic job she did as the mother in “The Fighter.” In real live she doesn’t look anywhere near old enough to play Mark Walberg’s mother–but in “reel” life she pulls it off perfectly. But, kudos also to Helen, Annette and Kim, all FOF!

There is no doubt in my mind that Helen Mirren tops most women today with her acting ability. She is a “star” in every role she plays.

I bought this movie, as a Valentine Gift forro my husband. We really enjoyed it, Helen Mirren stole the show. I am supervised, I hadn’t heard about it, until I saw it for sale.

I think that Melissa Leo was positively amazing in The Fighter. She was transformed! My husband and I could not even find Melissa in the character she played. She played a part that was difficult to make totally blamable, but you could not take your eyes off of her when she was on the screen. It was repulsion and fascination at the same time.
Lynnmarie Doherty says:
I realize you asked for the 2010 season, but I could not help but to cast my vote for Joan Rivers. This is a woman,no matter if you like her or not,has comeback from so much, still stands tall, and tells it like it is. I voted for her, from the yrs preceding 2010,and also what she is continuously doing now.

I think whatever project Helen Mirren touches . . . it turns to gold. She is a woman who has quite a bit of depth and range in the characters she is able to portray and bringing the characters to life. You go Helen!!
