12April   {Giveaway} Brush On Block

—————————————————————————————————

FOF Susan Posnick is giving away her brilliant Brush On Block. Enter to win by answering in the comments below: Have you used sun protection your whole life?

FOF Susan Posnick spent her early adult years suntanning and teaching on the island of St. Croix. There, she met a well-known NYC advertising photographer, Wendi Hilti, who became her mentor.  “We would sit in the afternoons and drink our Campari and sodas, and he’d say, ‘what are you going to do when you get off this godforsaken island?’” recalls Susan. “I’d say, ‘I don’t know. Teaching kids is not my thing. I’ve always been about fashion and beauty. But, I grew up in a small town and have no idea where to start.” Wendi introduced Susan to his fashion connections in New York City and helped jumpstart her career in beauty.

Susan spent the next thirty years as a professional makeup artist, working on celebrities such as Cindy Crawford and Rene Russo and eventually became the personal makeup artist for Mary Kay.

While Susan had the good fortune of meeting Wendi in St. Croix, she had the not-so-good fortune of developing skin cancer on her face, which was diagnosed in her 50s but is most likely the result of her years spent in the Caribbean sun.

“What was the size of a pinhead on the outside, was the size of a quarter underneath,” says Susan of her melanoma. “Fortunately, I caught it in the earliest possible phase.”

After a successful operation to remove the cancer, Susan made it her personal mission to develop fuss-free sun protection that every woman could incorporate into her beauty routine. “When I got skin cancer, I was allergic to all the chemical sunscreens,” says Susan. “I really wanted to make a mineral product that felt good on the skin, was portable and easy to use.” In 2001, she launched ColorFlo, a refillable brush with mineral foundation that also protects the skin from UV rays. ColorFlo was a retail hit but Susan felt the product was limited to just women.

This year, Susan launched Brush On Block, which, like ColoFlo is a refillable brush with mineral sun protection. However, Brush On Block contains very little color pigment and appears transparent on the skin. It has an SPF of 30 and stays on in the water for 80 minutes. “I wanted to create a product that would work for the whole family. My goal is that people will wake up every day, wash their faces, brush their teeth and brush on block.”

About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma which is the mildest form of skin cancer. I was ready to write my will but told that I need to always put on sunscreen before I go outside in sunny or cloudy days. I wished I would have used sunscreen all my life. I think this would product that indeed would help my skin.

Unfortunately, I was an avid sunbather in my youth and my skin shows the battle scars. I have been wearing it consistently for the past 20 years and never leave home without it.

I didn’t use sun screen as often as I should when I was younger, but am very careful about it in recent years.

I have only used it when outside in the summer, at the beach, the cottage. I should be using it everyday!

I’ve used sun protection since the 1970′s when I got sun poisoning on a trip- first they thought it was Lupas- luckilyy not.
So now it’s big hats/visors/long sleeves and lots of the hihgest SPF they sell.

I used sunscreen only at the beach when I was young and mostly before I tanned. I have not had a chance much in the recent time to apply it, except when contained in facial moisturizer. I think it is a resistance to the feel of what I think it will be like, that influences me to not try applying more often. I have combination facial skin and an area that gets irritated/sensitive except during the summer, and so feel limited.

I’m over fifty – of course, I haven’t used sunscreen products my entire life. I don’t think they were even invented until I had survived several sunburns. I’m part of the generation that used baby oil to try to parch myself to the highest degree while baking in the sun. My skin turned lobster red and then peeled off in sheets. I am now wiser and panic at the thought of being in the sun without sunscreen. :)

I have been a sun worshipper all of my life, beaching it, never wearing any sunblock just baby oil and iodine. It seems that was a big mistake, I now am dealing with brown sunspots everywhere. I now where sunblock, and always look for new and better products. This sounds like a product i would use regularly and not go back to bad habits of SPF 4.

I started using sun protection in my late twenties/early thirties, but the damage had already been done from back in the days of using baby oil to get a tan. What was I thinking??? Now, I never leave the house without it. Brush-on sounds so simple! I love the idea!

No, I have not used sun protection my whole life…..mainly just when I was out in the sun for fun, (in my younger yrs.). Now that I am a young “62″ yr old, I definitely buy anything I can with sun protection to help out. My sweet little father has had several skin cancers on his face, also an Aunt. I really am trying to take care of my skin. Like everyone these days, I have to watch my money so I would love to win these products!
