As in our private lives, authenticity in business seems clearly rooted in values:
What ARE our own, deeply personal values and how consistent are we in honoring them?
Living into this definition of authenticity requires loads of clarity and courage. One of the most powerful takeaways from a professional coaching relationship is achieving a clear and solid “in the bones” appreciation — sometimes with surprises — of what is most important to us, of what actually makes life feel great when we choose it. With this clarity and some creative perspective work, the courage to BE authentic often follows quite naturally.
Fortunately, it seems that a paradigm shift toward authentic leadership and an abandonment of old, unproductive reflexes (e.g. zero-sum competitiveness or gender stereotyping) seems to be occurring across all business demographics. FOFs just happen to extremely well positioned and prepared to lead the way!
I don’t know of any business paradigm for women over fifty so maybe you can create one! To be authentic one needs to really take stock of their actions–all the time. When we have personal integrity and are sincere, authenticity is our natural way of being. Go for it! Trust me, the rewards are personal, but endless!
