I was asked to participate in the #KYconfessionals campaign, sponsored by K-Y Brand and Walgreens. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
Invoking the name of my former lover, Edgar (1988-2000), comes in handy when I’m about to write a blog about sex, because my sexual experiences with him were o-u-t-of-t-h-i-s-w-o-r-l-d!
Sex on the magnificent beach in Longboat Key, Florida. Sex on the plush carpet of his opulent executive office in Connecticut. Sex in his high-end Lincoln Town Car (before it became a car service car). Sex in the oversized jacuzzi tub. We not only had sex all over the place; no place on each of our bodies was off limits!
Well, that was then and this is now. I’m almost 16 years older and intimacy and sex have become routine, as in ordinary.
So, I have two choices: 1) Accept ordinary or 2) Figure out a way to turn ordinary into extraordinary. Interestingly, more and more companies are creating products and devices to help me make the second option possible, a response to a sexual revolution in America today.
Women of all ages are openly discussing the subject of sex, and many boomer women, especially, would like to enjoy the same quality of sex they once cherished. Or, at least come close.
K-Y, a brand we’ve all known since we’ve “come of age” and has grown up with us, wants to help us put the va va voom back into our bedrooms. Its brand new K-Y Touch, which it bills as a “2-in-1 silky massage crème and pleasure gel,” is designed to increase our skin’s sensitivity, so every touch feels like it did “back in the day.” Instead of getting right to the business of having sex, and acting like robots, K-Y encourages us to “slow down and explore more of each other for a more profound intimate connection.” The crème and gel combo is designed to be activated by touch, so the sensations build with every caress, stroke and move.
“OK, I’m game,” I told the folks at K-Y, who invited me (and David) to try K-Y Touch. So, off I went to pick it up at Walgreens.
After obediently shaking the sensual-looking bottle, and then drizzling a few drops of K-Y Touch about three inches below my belly button, I asked David to softly massage it into my skin (that’s a new one!). Sure enough, I felt a warming, tingling feeling. The cream can be used anywhere on our bodies, including on the penis and vagina, to enhance the ease and comfort of sexual activity, and supplement our body’s natural lubrication.
K-Y even has created a series of clever activities, called KY Confessionals, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The idea is for you and your partner to forget the flowers and dinner out, and try something new, like arousing each other’s passions right at home. Luckily, Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, so we won’t have everyday stresses hampering our pleasure, and we can take as much time as we need to get in the mood.
My favorite activity is a K-Y version of spin the bottle, which I plan to play with David after a sumptuous homemade dinner.
Here’s how it works:
You place the K-Y Touch bottle in the center of a paper wheel, spin, and then must perform the intimate act that’s described where the bottle lands. There are 10 instructions, such as: Picking a sexy song and giving your partner a show; taking turns massaging each other (with K-Y Touch, of course), wherever you may choose, and whispering in your partner’s ear to turn him on.
I’m thinking about trying a couple of other activities that are a bit more daring, and invite David and me to play out some of our inner secrets, including breaking out the blindfold, and surprising each other with where the next lick, kiss or stroke will land. K-Y Touch should come in handy here. A sexy take on BINGO, and other ways to play, should give you a few giggles, not to mention get you gushing with excitement.
