The third time was not the charm for some of our FOFs at the Oscars. A few of our stars shined through, but many crashed and burned.
What do you think: Which FOF takes the award for best dressed? Which gown was an FOFlop?
Gloria Cooper (Bradley Cooper’s Mother)
It was really sweet of Bradley Cooper to bring his mother, Gloria, along to the Oscars. What’s not so sweet is her choice of metallic Keds instead of statement stilettos. Her black lace dress has gorgeous detailing, which you might actually be able to see if it wasn’t obscured by her faux feather shrug. What do you think of her look?
Helen Hunt
We love an FOFrugalista! When we found out Helen’s navy blue dress was from retail chain H&M we were stunned. She looks like a million bucks but perhaps it has something to do with the $700,000 worth of jewelry she had on? What do you think?
Jane Fonda
While some of us though Jane Fonda looked ravishing in her canary yellow retro redux dress from Versace, others thought its polygon pattern and yellow color was a bit reminiscent of a Star Trek uniform. What do you think?
Catherine Zeta Jones
We think Catherine Zeta Jones looks like a golden goddess in this stunning Zuhair Murad gown. The gold tones make her complexion look even more FOFlawless, and we love the intricate detail. Gold stars all around for CZJ! Do you agree?
Sally Field
Third time’s a charm? After two “almosts” with her gown choices at the Golden Globes and then the Sag Awards…Sally Field has finally nailed it with her red organza layered dress by Valentino Couture. It fits like a dream and the color is delicious. Agree?
Jacki Weaver
Wrong color, wrong shape…Jackie Weaver didn’t take home an Oscar, nor will she take home our accolades for this oxblood Rana Salam dress. The sequin-patterned top of the dress looks like it fell off a gymnastics costume and the criss-cross waist on this dress don’t flatter her FOFigure at all. What do you think?
Sandra Bullock
In an Awards Show FOFull of misses, Sandra is truly a diamond in the rough with her sheer black lace and bedazzled Ellie Saab Gown and diamond hair barrette. Are you a fan?
Barbra Striesand
Beautiful “memoriam” performance, but sorry Barb–your gown is a miss for us. The neckline scoops too low and the choker doesn’t do any favors for it and is looking, well–dated (yeah…we said it.) Add chunky sequins, layered necklaces and flowing fabric for a look we’d rather forget. What do you think?

Athena Creamer says:
Bradley Cooper’s mom may have had a broken foot, and metallic sneakers were the best she could do.
Michelle Ross says:
Jane Fonda looks like the traitor she is and yellow suits her as she is a coward. She should have been left in Hanoi, Jane.
Barbara S., seriously, way past time for a new look, way, way past time.
Sandra B., beautiful.
Sally F, wow, was her stylist high? Horrible.
Caroline says:
Sally Field’s dress was all kinds of wrong. To pull off this style, one must be tall – she’s not. Secondly, the tiered ruffles look more appropriate to a child pageant winner. Thirdly, I think the red wasn’t bright enough to work with her coloring. Her hair? Messy and not styled enough to work with a formal gown. I also thought her makeup was too little – she looked washed out. The top portion of the dress would have worked had the dress been a sleek column-ish style gown. I’d love to hear the writer of this section’s explanation for why she thought it was a hit.

I have foot problems too, but there has got to be something that is better than sneakers with a formal gown! “Statement stilletos” are out of the question for some of us, but there are alternatives. If you want to, you can find something that will look decent. Sandra Bullock and Catherine Zeta-Jones were both stunning, but of course they are both very young-looking and thin. That helps. They both look very classy. The others, not so much. I liked the color of Hunt’s dress but not much else. Sally Field picked a great color but she seems to be lost in that dress. But you have to cut these ladies some slack. Even with professional stylists at their beck and call, it’s still tough to get it just right.
Janice says:
Sally looks amazing but thought the dress was a bit overpowering.
I appreciated that Sally covered up things that no one really wants to see which would include the wrinkles on Jane Fonda’s back. Other than the back of Jane Fonda’s dress, the basic style is very pretty on her although I don’t personally care for the yellow.
Gloria Cooper made an obvious choice to follow a trend with the silver sneakers and it was a fail. If there is some reason that she can not wear even a low heel there are far too many choices of dress flats to use foot problems as an excuse for shoes teens are wearing. It just looks silly.
Helen Hunt looks simple, gracious and dignified. Not everyone’s taste in clothing but nothing to complain about.
Barbra gave everyone another blast to the past and did the only thing she seems to know how to do. Very dated. Somehow that neckline just made her whole body appear to sag.
Jacki Weaver just had too much going on. Too many sequins, too many ruffles, too much bright makeup.
Sandra Bullock-ALWAYS gets it right. She knows how to dress her body.
NN says:
They are not average FOFs. All of these people have (or can have) stylists who look up clothes for these celebs, and the clothes can be coutured to fit – therefore we can judge the what they have selected – they have plenty of options.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rachel_Zoe_Project
She is an example of a stylist whose whole career is made of selecting right outfit for a celebrity for an special occation.
Naomi 53 says:
My only comment is Sally Field is so tiny and the dress wore her she didn’t were the dress. Has for as sneaker I personally love style but can’t were 7 inch heels ever!
Catherine Barroll says:
I think we should all be a little kinder to each other. Women who are slim tall andclassically beautiful have an easier time wearing clothes, than more idiosyncratically attractive women. I’d say they are all looking pretty darn good.
Judith Marshall says:
Loved the style of Jane Fonda’s dress, covering the arms and accentuating the waist. Not sure about the cutout on the back or the color. As for Barbra (you spelled her name wrong and you could be killed for that), enough with the bare shoulders and neckband already.
Shelley says:
Thanks so much for noticing the incorrect spelling of Barbra’s name. It will be changed.
Moonchime says:
I’m not going to judge any of these ladies for the clothes they chose to wear. It’s difficult sometimes to find just the right shoes, dress, etc., because as we age, so do our bodies. I’m afraid I would have had to wear metallic sneakers just as Bradley Cooper’s beautiful Mom did. I have Morton’s Neuroma in my right foot. I’ve also broken the foot within the last two years. My options therefore have become more and more limited. It’s sad, but true.
As for their dresses, they all look great in their own way. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I say, if you feel good in a certain dress, then by all means wear it. There will always be people who like your clothing choice, and people who don’t. Again, sad, but true!
Victoria says:
I have bunions as big as goose eggs, but I would look for a better shoe than a sneaker with a formal gown. It just looks silly. There are dressy shoes that are flat or have a minimal heel. There are shoes that stretch to fit your foot. There are a lot of options.
Karen says:
I thought that most of the women were unimaginative this year. Jane Fonda looked great in her dress. At 73(?) she still looks great even with the help of a little surgery!
What I liked about her dress was that it was totally “on trend” with the new shoulders and canary yellow.
Helen Hunt although beautiful in her dress, was boring and looked so much like Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon with the strapless prom-look.
Sally Fields was pretty in the color but it honestly looked like a copy of the one she wore to the Emmys? Not very creative.
BlueBear says:
I just want to send kudos to the beautiful Helen Hunt. She eschewed all the designers and went with an off-the-rack gown from a low-priced retailer and she looked better than 99% of the other women on the red carpet whose gowns cost thousands of dollars! I loved the navy gown before I knew where it was from. Now, I love it even more! And she is just gorgeous!
Allison says:
I loved the design, though not the fabric, of Helen Hunt’s gown. However, I have heard that it wasn’t “off the rack” from H&M but was specially made for her.
NN says:
The colour of Helen Hunts dress didn’t suit her, and it could have been fitted better from the waist and back. Extra greases didn’t add umph to design, but made the fabric look cheap.
Teresa Seithel says:
What did Jane Fonda do to her face? She looks as though it is frozen in place.
Susan H says:
Mmmmm, Botox?
Louise says:
Streisand needs to move her look out of the 60s.
Fields’ dress was too ballroom gowny but I appreciate the long sleeves and color. Too many of today’s gowns and occasion dresses are sleeveless; terrible for those of us who aren’t buff.
Hunt was the classiest of the bunch!
