FOF Nancy Atkins and her daughter, Mary, 22, were lifelong shopping partners before launching an Ebay store specializing in eco-friendly and fair trade fashion. It was such an overwhelming success, that in 2008 they launched their own retail site, Nancy’s Gone Green, featuring “ethical” apparel, accessories and beauty products. The team carefully vets every item they sell, making sure it adheres to fair labor practices and eco-friendly materials and manufacturing. The site is “green,” but it’s for fashionistas, first and foremost. “We’re not selling earthy, crunchy ‘save the trees’ t-shirts,” writes Nancy on her blog.
Nancy scouts eco-friendly designers, and she’s an eco-designer herself. In her Re:awakened line she mixes recycled cashmere with found buttons and charms to create one-of-a-kind accessories. “I love to give second-hand clothing a new life!” she says.
Her signature “Gone to Paris” recycled cashmere hat was an instant site bestseller. “You put it on and adjust the folds ‘just so.'” says Nancy of the hat. “Everyone will ask ‘Have you gone to Paris?”

are you kidding? i love hat head! i’m 55 years old, with a head full of thick, coarse, naturally curly locks, and nothing tames them better than a good hat. seriously, my hairstyle looks 10 times better after it’s been calmed down by a skullcap, and this hat is so much prettier than one of those!

To be honest, if I am wearing one of my favorite hats, for example this Cashmere hat, how cute is this hat, I Love the button on the top its like a litte conversation peice. Working outside all day it is tough to avoid “hat hair”, when I take off my hat and my hair decides it wants to stand up all by itself and pointing in all different directions, I will tie it back and put my Fave hat back on, it is a no win situation and I would perfer to show off my new cashmere hat, wouldn’t you???

I am a Minnesota woman who lived here most of my life. A good hat not only fits your head but has a little room in it. The adjusting of the top of the hat makes it roomier or closer fitting depending on the temperature outside. I keep my hair short and simple and it slides on and off without much of a problem. Go recycle.

My hair is barely an inch long, so hat hair isn’t a major concern. I keep a pick in my purse so I don’t have much of a probably. Since my hats are accessories I have the option of keeping it on since it nearly always matches what I wear.

Ditto the hat heads who wear their hats all day. If I put it on, I have to leave it on. My very fine hair wouldn’t stay styled after a hat, even with super glue. If I know I have to take a head covering off later, I wear ear muffs or a head band over my ears and forehead, under my hair.

I don’t know how to combat hat hair immediately…for static, you can take a small (super small film on your hands) of lotion and run your hands across your hair…that will help. Then for “lumpy” hat hair if you don’t want to wash it again…bust out the flat iron or curling iron.

I avoid getting hat hair by pulling my hair into a “Pebbles” style pony on top of my head and then release and shake out after I take my hat off.

I use hairspray to set the part of my head to be covered, as well as hair pins (bobby pins) to make sure the “lift” I need is secure before placing the cap on my head. When placing the cap on my head, I pull all sides out, stretching before pulling it on.

I usually wear my hair straight but on days when i know i’ll be wearing a cap, i leave it wavy. Then, when i arrive at my destination I bend over and shake out my hair while fluffing it at the crown with my fingers. It usually works pretty well!

I have very long straight white hair, and either leave it down and just put hat on head or do they same thing I do in summer, put on top of head (in bun or pony tail) and after taking hat off unwind and brush out, no problem!!! When I style my wet clean hair, I add a little gel to it, then dry. Dry – you can’t tell it is there at all but it helps my hair hold up a style and recover from a hat wearing day. Plus less static cling overall with a little gel. Also if you wet a comb with water, then comb it after wearing a hat, it pops back into place better when there is a bit of invisible gel in your hair. Try it. How do I know this? I live in Rochester NY where we get 100 inches of snow per year so we know hats.

Gel. I have thin, wispy hair that has always reacted to the cold, dry weather by clinging to my face and scalp etc. Some gel worked into it before drying helps it fight off being flattened.

I don’t avoid hat head. I have wavy frizzy hair, so when I take my hats off, I just shake it out and it is pretty much back to normal. Unless it gets too much static electricity in it, then I look really wild and horrible! I have most of it mashed to my head with a halo of fly aways surrounding me face in a circle of hysterical hair. I don’t use hair products either except in a blue moon so I don’t know it that would help. The cashmere hat is sooooooooo cute and would remedy a lot of my problems with winter hair because I wouldn’t take it off!! Problems solved!

I have fine, medium length hair and wear hats all the time! I’ve actually had people ask me how I keep my hair from looking flat! My secret? Bend over and brush your hair like you are going to make a pony tail on top of your head. Do not use an elastic – instead – twist it and wrap it into a bun and secure with just three bobby pins. When you take your hat off, quickly remove the pins, shake your hair and finger comb it back into place. When you have a chance to get to a mirror you can do any adjustments necessary – but you probably won’t need to! Oh – this works if I’ve styled my hair straight or wavy!

Working outside I am bound to have “HatHead” when my day is over and my hat is removed I fluff up with my fingers, if there is alot of static and all hope is lost, the hat goes back on until I am home and shower time. I am a hat wearer and own lots of them. I have a few hat boxes too, so maybe I am a hat hoarder. Anyway, I have the following solutions that work for me:
I have indoor or outdoor hats. The ones I will wear indoor are less warm and need not be removed at all.
I wear a pony tale ( loose) and so there is no flat hair issue. I also own a Fall which is specifically for wearing under a hat. I own a wig, too , but do not wear a hat over it, though I have seen that done as well. My daughter got extensions, and maybe that is something that could be incorporated too, I do not know.
Anyway, as long as your hair is clean and shiny, a mussed look for a moment is OK.
The cashemere hat looks so yum. Can’t wait to try one on just like it.

I bend forward and spray B.P. Prep (full of vitamins) on hair. Then I run my fingers through my hair, massage my scalp to fluff it up. Next I use phyto 7, creme de jour, vegetale haute hydration for dry hair, daily hydrating botanical cream on top to take care of the fly-a-ways and crunch up the lower layers of my hair to inspire the natural curl and shine. I don’t wear a hat that often but that works very well!

That is not usually a problem here in Florida-but this winter-brrr! I have short hair, but I do hate the totally flat on top look, so I kind of “finger comb” the top and crown especially, and rely on my great thickening mousse product to remind my hair to behave! I have two suggestions. I bought a motorcycle helmet liner which I put on first then the helmet or a hat…works great. I have also just put my hair up in a ponytail closer to the top of my head. That works great if I don’t have the liner handy.

Well….depending on the depth of the cold I will pull it back or curl it all over so when I take my hat off it is not mussed. I make sure I have a comb and or brush to spoof it up when the hat comes off.

I keep a spray bottle of Evian Facial Spray in my purse a little pick me up during the day. It also works great for hat head if you spritz a little on a hairbrush and then run through your hair.

How I avoid hat head from winter hats? The only solution I’ve found is to not wear hats. In winter, or any other season, for that matter. However, I recently bartered my handmade fabric flowers for two gorgeous hand sewn cloche-style hats. It will take courage to wear them, but even more courage to take them off. So I won’t – take them off, that is. Once on, never off!

When I sported a crewcut, hat head was a non-issue, but now with longer hair, I just lift it up in an improvised bun, pull the beautiful, soft, and warm-looking hat down over my head, and fluff up my hair when the hat comes off!

I wear a beret, which doesn’t flatten much of my hair if any. I can pull it down over one ear if the wind is really cold; if necessary, I change sides when the exposed ear gets cold. It works for me, and I can play with the exact angles in the fabric.

I really need to wear hats in the winter and I have quite curly naturally curly hair so after taking off my hat I bend over and shake it out and run my fingers through it…that helps. hat head…an age old problem….I carry a small, refillable vial of argan/moraccan oil in my purse, put a dime sz amount between my palms, rub them together, and run them under, then lightly over the top of my head-then I twist my hair as if to put it in a bun, let it go, and WALAA!!! No more hat hair!

To avoid hat hair, I choose to pull my hair into a ponytail. When I have had a short hair cut, I used a styling product to slick my hair down and then put on my hat.

I pull the top half of my chin-length hair up into a clip. This requires a hat with some “top space.” When I arrive indoors, I remove the clip, shake my hair and check it in a mirror. If necessary, I spritz some water on it and brush. By the way, awesome hat!!

I keep a shpritz-bottle filled with water at home and in the office. After a quick shpritz I use a hair-pick and voila! my curls are back.

I wear a shortish hair style that I brush and go after the shower – after wearing a hat, I slip into the nearest ladies room, after washing my hands, do a quick run thru my hair! Back in place!

I have curly hair, so can never pull off a neat hairstyle. I spent my childhood brushing my hair, putting down the brush and having my father tell me, “Go brush your hair!” At least I don’t get hathead!

Carry a hair pic to fluff the hat hair. Never used to wear a hat until I experienced all my heat leaving my body through the top of my head – it really makes a difference.
I’d love a cute little cashmere hat – and I’m told green is my color.

It’s a total winner. I’m a green-eyed woman and who doesn’t love cashmere. Bravo! I’m not sure that you can avoid hat head, but when you take one off, bend at the waist (somewhere discreet) and fluff your hair at the temples

I don’t avoid it really. I have shorter hair so I go in the bathrooom, bend over & shake my head, run it through w/my fingers & what I get is what I get. The hat is very cute & I can imagine so soft & warm. I would love it.

I have thick curly hair, and I just tuck it all up beneath the hat, then shake it down when I take it off. I a little scrunching and it’s almost back to good as new.

As I am an outdoors woman working horses on a daily basis I have *hat head* all the time! Between my riding helmet and then switching over to one of my many baseball caps to cover my *hat head* to run errands afterwards. It would be nice to don a stylish hat of cashmere while still wearing my riding apparel as I complete my day looking and feeling beautiful at the sametime!

I get hat head, but I keep a brush at work, I go into the bathroom, brush and dampen and touch up any hat head I got. Otherwise… I don’t know how to avoid it. But it can get so cold, it is a small cost to pay for a warm head!

I’m wearing sweaters and jackets and coats all with hoods these days for fewer ‘hat head’ experiences. On the other hand, I’d sport hat hair for a cashmere hat!
