As a makeup artist, I advise my clients never to use a scrub or apply a translucent powder over their lips prior to applying lipstick. We need lots of moisture after we turn 50, since the delicate, fine skin of our lips easily becomes dry during the winter, causing them to shrivel up.

An organic lip balm like Burt’s Bees contains organic beeswax and peppermint oil that work as antioxidants, while wonderfully nourishing and plumping the lips. The balms also come in three light shades–cherry, rose, and light brown–and are quite affordable. To give your lips an extra boost of moisture, apply a tiny bit of organic olive oil, and leave it on all night. You will be amazed at how well this smooths your lips and reduces crevices, especially during the winter.

    Putting a lipstick on has always been a struggle for me. Thank you for the tips. I luvvvv reading your instructions. Nothing seems impossible now!!! And I, now, use the olive oil….every night. This is great.
