I need help with hot flashes. I have had them for over 10 years and have tried every remedy I can think of; herbs, hormones, accupuncture, diet, exercise and I cannot get rid of them.

I found that certain foods, alcohol, and stress often trigger hot flashes . I keep water with me all the time, and find that when I feel one coming on, a sip or two of water helps quite a bit.

Thanks for the tip. I also find several deep yoga breaths at the onset can reduce the severity.

I only lasted six months living with hot flashes, I can’t imagine your frustration suffering from hot flashes for over TEN years! It sounds like you have tried every trick in the book. Have you tried prescription non-hormonal options?

When women are unable or do not wish to take hormone therapy, nonhormonal prescription therapies government-approved for other medical conditions have shown some efficacy in improving hot flashes. These drugs must be prescribed and adjusted carefully by your healthcare provider and include gabapentin, used to treat epilepsy and migraine; certain blood pressure medications; and some low-dose antidepressant medications (paroxetine, fluoxetine, or venlafaxine).

Have you considered that there are other causes flaring up those hot flashes? Some medical conditions can also cause hot flashes, such as thyroid disease or infection. Some drug therapies, such as tamoxifen (for breast cancer), raloxifene (for osteoporosis), and gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (for endometriosis) may cause hot flashes. If you have unusual symptoms, you should consult your healthcare provider to rule out other potential causes.

Make sure you are avoiding hot flash triggers and make time for YOU.

Keep us posted – sending you a COOL breeze.
