There are many causes for low platelets (called thrombocytoepnia) such a certain medications, auto-immune conditions, certain infections or viruses and just idiopathic (no known reason).

It is important to get your blood count checked with your primary care doctor who may refer you to a hematologist who specialized in blood disorders. It is important to know the cause of the low platelets before you chose how to treat it or manage your condition. If you are going for surgery or any procedure, please make your doctor or dentist aware.
