Most of our culinary herbs are native to the Mediterranean, so they like full sun, good air circulation, rain, neutral pH, gravely soils, and plenty of insects to pollinate their flowers. Indoors they don’t get any of these things, so it is no wonder that they are miserable. Your best bet is to try growing some of the more shade tolerant herbs (such as mint) in your sunniest window.
