I agree with the two comments already given- drip irrigation with drought and heat tolerant plants will be the best bet for success

Have a drip line system installed. It can be set to run on a timer, and can be as simple or elaborate as needed. You can add soaker hoses or just use the emitters. There are many landscape companies that will install this for you, or you can install them yourself. A drip system can work for beds or for containers or a combination of the two. I also agree with the answer below, use plants suited for your environment. The combination should work well for you.

I don’t know if you are referring to plants in pots or plants in the ground. With plants in pots, I have to suggest going with sedums, succulents and cacti.
