I’m 69 and my face looks dull — what is the best way to get my “glow” back? Have read about Vitamin C serum and Renova products (Renova I cannot afford). Your opinion on PETER ROTH retinol serum? Many thanks.

I have always believed in mild exfoliation. For an at-home treatment that won’t break the budget, you can try this exfoliating recipe:
    -2 teaspoons of pure honey
    -2 teaspoons of almond meal
    -4 teaspoons of oatmeal
-Combine ingredients in a blender and pulse until mixed. Pour ¼ cup of buttermilk to the mixture and refrigerate.

You can use this exfoliator daily, or you can try the Repêchage Honey and Almond Scrub for $32.00, available at FaceLuXe™. It will leave your skin looking and feeling smoother, hydrated, and glowing!

I have a pair of gloves that exfoliate and I use them very gently in the shower. Lots of water is always a good thing and I think very clean skin with very good make up like Bobby Brown is a good thing.

Retinol, a derivitive of Vitamin A, which is added to cosmetics is not as potent as the FDA approved drug tretinoin, also known as Renova. A pea sized amount is all that is needed every night, so the tube of Renova will last a long time … and in my opinion, i tis well worth the investment along with a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

This is spot on…as we grow older we need to budget for the best skin care possible. I am wondering if I can buy Renova in Mexico though…do you suppose that would be possible?

as our skin ages due to enviromental factors, gentics, smoking, diet, …the “glow” disappears. in order to rejuvenate the skin we need to remove the top damaged layer. this is done by retin-A (generic for Renova), chemical peels, microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing.

My recommendation is exercise. Any activity that you enjoy that gets your body moving. Good circulation does wonder for your complexion. And of course, a diet that includes lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Careful of toxic ingredients. Try to stay away from additives and pesticides. My moisturizing Boomstick Glo is all organic and made of all the healing ingredients of honey, bees wax and propolis. I am getting reports from many women that it is improving there skin and they are getting the glow back. You can find out at http://www.boombycindyjoseph.com. There are many testimonials, demo videos and information there.

I agree with the posts about the Clarisonic facebrush, regular microdermabrasion and chemical peels. Working with a trust-worthy skin care specialist to put together an affordable skin care regimen is key to getting your “glow” back. There are many Vit A or retinol serums on the market presently that are effective, but getting an opinion about which one is good for your skin is key.

For ‘glow’ the big quick and fun fix is exfoliation! This can be accomplished with a microdermabrasion treatment, a light chemical peel, a microdermabraison scrub, a Facial Buf Puf Sponge and the Clarisonic mentioned by one of the other replies.

You can also get lovely exfoliation as well as a compacting of the dead skin cell layer (one of the big causes of dull skin) with alpha hydroxy acid products. I love glycolic acid moisturizers for this. They need to be 10% or more in concentration. I have a lot of information about them on my web site.

Glycolic acid skin care options: http://www.drbaileyskincare.com/glycolic-acid-facial-skin-care.shtml

I also love tretinoin (generic is fine, no need to spend the money for Renova). In fact, I think it’s the most effective home anti aging product. I have lots of info about tretinoin on my web site too: http://www.drbaileyskincare.com/blog/use-retin-a-tretinoin-for-acne-anti-aging-skin-care/

So you have lots of great options to fit any budget. I hope that helps!

I agree with the other posters – Many PTR products are excellent, and Clarisonic rocks. Check out reviews of PTR products, and also look up the list of best serums and antiaging products, at http://www.beautipedia.com

Extra Virgin Olive Oil!!! Every time you clean your skin, apply about 1/2 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil to your face and neck. You may massage it in, or leave it for about thirty seconds. Blot the rest. It will not come off on your clothes, your pillowcase or anything else. It is great under makeup as well.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a cell size smaller than your blood cell, so it penetrates deep into your skin. It also has all the antioxidants your body requires in direct proportion.
Within five days, you will notice an amazing difference in your skin. Friends will notice your new glow!
I suggest that you get a small bottle and keep it next to the sink in the bathroom. This way you won’t forget to use it daily.
    Enjoy,
    Maria

    Hi there–

I am a HUGE fan of Peter Thomas Roth products. It’s one of the first skin care lines I used in my skin care practice when they came to market. The Retinol Serum is a wonderful product if you have lines and wrinkles. I would use the PM version.

A product that I always use by PTR are the UnWrinkle Pads. These most certainly restore glow. They are multi-purpose — exfoliate, minimize lines and they have peptides! I have actually seen my skin improve (firming, clarity) using this product.

For glow you should also be using an extremely hydrating moisturizer — plump, dewy, well-hydrated skin equals GLOW!

If you love the PTR line, I would suggest the Ultimate Cream or Daily Defense.

Are you exfoliating your skin 2-3 times per week? If not, that will help immensely with removing the dead skin which can cause dullness. I have not tried the Peter Roth retinol serum, but retinol is proven to help erase lines and wrinkles. OTC products aren’t as strong as the prescription brands, so it may take a bit longer to see results with Peter Roth products.

I would invest in a Clarisonic brush TODAY! It is my favorite beauty product, and almost immediately after I began using it, I could tell a huge difference in my skin. I think you will, too.
