Do women wear white pants after Labor Day? I still have a problem doing it, ingrained in my head, but have seen a couple women wearing them!

White, bright Summer white, is still not acceptable in the Fall and Winter and you get strange looks when you wear it. Off-white, Winter white, is beautiful, particularly around the holidays. (White shoes, however, are verboten unless you are a bride!) I love the change of seasons and putting away my white jeans, etc., is a joy, as I know I can get out my Fall and Winter jewel toned colors, plus my Winter whites. It appears that white can be worn throughout the year but it’s a choice of Summer white vs. Winter white. It’s also a choice of wearing white jeans and white linen vs. off-white wool pants, etc.

When I read this I just had to comment. I live in MI, and also have always been taught -no white after LD-, but the other day I had a semi-casual lunch to attend. Since it was slightly chilly but still very pleasant outside, I opted to wear my white jeans, along with a nice bright fall-colored sweater, and a pair of boots. I was surprised how many people mentioned about my white slacks! Nothing bad, more of a passing remark about how nice it looked this time of year, but still they obviously noted them, LOL, I personally say, ‘go with it and wear what makes you feel good’.

Yes…especially when paired with tans, beige, browns and the like. It’s that old noise that we grew up with. Cancel that and rock your white anytime you want.

To be honest, I never ever understood the who and why women cannot wear white after labor day, I always have worn white pants, shirts, yes even shoes, OMG, did I break the rules in the color changing of leaves and clothing. I love white, in the fall I wear white, although I change the white from pure white to off white like a warm winter white, my whites are still white just toned down, so for all those that make rude comments or critizisms to the women of white after labor day, I do not live all the time by the fashion rules, I am 56 and still feel and believe I can wear what I love. Please do not put the women of winter white down because you follow what is in style, new ideas and fashions are developed every second of every day by the bold and beautiful women of yesteryear and the women of tomorrow, God Bless us, we are not breaking the law of fashion, we are enhancing it, good luck to all, have a very FAB day.

Absolutely, as a matter of fact, Caolina Herrara and Michael Kors have winter white all the time in their collections, as does Dior. Depending on where you live, I would keep crispy linens away until the summer, but love even white jeans and boots and leather jackets. White for winter!!!!!

It really depends upon the weather and where you live. In NYC we have been having 70-75 degree days w/ bright sunshine and if you wish to wear white it’s perfectly fine. My friend asked me if she could still wear sandals the other day & I said absolutely. I told her if she wears boots, it would be very hot so the same rule applies to white pants. You would not wear fall heavier fabrics until the weather actually changes.

An age old style question. I think as long as the fabric does not scream summer( no linen and light weight cotton) you can wear white e.g blouse, cardigan, coat. I think a winter white looks best as we really get into the season. Also if you are in a tropical climate white tends to go into early fall.

Absolutely, if the fabric is correct. No linen, no white jeans, etc. Just use your own judgement, go into silks, lightweight wools, etc. Hope this helps.

It’s becoming more common and I know at least one designer (Ann Demeulemeester) who has incorporated them in her current Fall line. I think it’s fine as long as the weather stays warm; once it cools off, the look just doesn’t feel right to me, until later in the season when “winter” white is an elegant look.
