What is appropriate to wear to a wedding that says “festive” dress? There’s a dinner for out of town guests Saturday night and the wedding is Sunday evening. I don’t fit into the things I have that would work – I need a style that will slim my 5’3″ body which is now 15lbs. more than it was!

I agree with Sherrie “festive” usually means colour!….if you don’t have colour in your wardrobe…but you do have a black outfit that “fits”……then do black…with added accessory colours….buy a really bright scarf….even two..and twist them together and …add loads of pearls..anything you have hidden away…(genuine) or costume jewellery..(layers of pearls always looks like you’ve gone to a bit of effort)…a colourful handbag and heels..hair up….and a bright colour lipstick..

I love sending people to my pearl jewellery “gallery” online ..to see how to use pearls in a non conventional way…festive..maybe?…go take a peek…

The term “festive” dress means not a suit but something that has an artistic or crafted touch. Spring 2012 is the right season for this attire, as designers are showing tons of color, texture, application, short or long options. The hemlines can be shorter in the front longer in the back or if you prefer an even hem the shift dress has returned. The shift style is more forgiving on the body. Prints are abundant so you can step out and use this as a form of color and interest to be “festive”. Another style option that may work, a dress that fits closer on the bust area and torso but the skirt is full.

Last week I attended the Fashion Coterie show at the Javits Center in NYC, and most of the dresses I saw had interest even if they were solid. Overall there were not a lot of solid dresses, but if the designer chose solid then it was in a fun color!!
Have fun shopping as you have plenty of options this season.

FESTIVE to me can me two things… first, is it a theme oriented wedding, perhaps in hawaii???? … then i would wear a lei etc….and floral dress with a flower in my hair…… or…..secondly, it could just mean have fun and go wild…. Lots of sequins available this year and lurex etc. I also like the new dropped waistlines, which can be very forgiving. If all that is just too much, then you can go for a wonderful solid black and do it up with great stockings., and jewelry… The costume jewlery this season is wonderful and im sure you can find something in every price point .

“Festive” means something that befits a fun/celebratory occasion. So I think that can be expressed through color (red or orange perhaps?), fabric, and style. It can be a dress (do you have good legs?) or wear pants (usually more body lengthening if you wear high heels) with a great top.
The wedding may be more formal since it is an evening affair. Check with the bride for specifics. You don’t reveal your size but keeping your height in mind–I would wear something monochromatic, very sleek and simple in style– and put the emphasis on great shoes and well chosen (but minimal!) accessories.

Maybe a tuxedo style outfit, with some sparkle, great jewelry which means nowadays a large necklace. It can be all black even. Sexy high high heels. Sparkle sparkle sparkle is the main thing. I have many friends who are petite. The worst thing (as a former stylist myself) is to belt too tightly. Elongate the line. The new long styles of dress should absolutely suit you perfectly. Not knowing your age, this is difficult. Hope this helps. Marsha

They mean relaxed cocktail, if there is such a thing. Ruffles, bright colors, some sequins, a little skin. You should be able to find a good inexpensive dress out there. Have you tried sShakti in the online world?
