I’m assisting a client who is searching for a FABULOUS wall mirror….. & lately, none have been found that would give a WOW factor. Price is not object, & one that is quite large, yet NOT the STANDING/ LEANING floor size. HELP! We’re headed to the MERCHANDISE MART on FRIDAY !! thanks in advance

I may not be of much help, because if I had a no-budget project and needed this special item I’d design it myself, draft it exactly the way I wanted it, and have it custom made. Depending on where you are, there should be excllent workrooms who can do this.

Always worth a look-see at vintage shops! Large mirrors show up frequently. If price no object then shipping can be done. Don’t know the area you are in but look on line at atelierdecampagneantiques.webs.com/ . They have beautiful items!

Have you tried http://www.jtribble.com or http://www.bellacor.com ? Both have different mirrors as well as different sizes.

If you want more of a traditional look, Friedman Mirrors (made the Williamsburg ones) & Chelsea House & Carvers Guild- all very high quality & some unusual looks. They’re all in High Point since I don’t know which Merchandise Mart you’re going to.

Would you consider an online vendor. Joss and Main are good contendors or buying a simple mirror and gilding it or faux finishing it to give it more wow factor.

If price is not an issue then I agree with going the custom route. Choose the exact size of mirror for the space and then some fabulous molding. A good cabinet shop or one specializing in custom mirrors and glass will be able to handle a job like this with ease. The only limit would be the imagination.

sussesr has a great idea. I would elaborate by saying to get high quality mirror cut to any size you like, beveled edge is even better, then get it framed. You’d have a one-of-a-kind and just the perfect size and look for your home.

All great ideas coming in. FOF is undeniably THE best forum for ideas & assistance I’ve ever tapped into. SUPER. Thanks Ladies! You’re AWESOME! I ‘ve mentioned the many suggestions to her already & looks like she’s entertaining the CUSTOM route, PLUS still goin’ to the Mdse Mart in Chicago. It’s my hometown, so ANY reason whatsoever, no matter the season, I’m outta here! If I did not have a darling granddaughter now …. I’d have moved back years ago!! It’s a vibrant, beautiful city, & the lake front….well, the pictures simply don’t do it justice! Never had a car growin’ up there……. we walked everywhere. Always downtown, as I lived just minutes away …shopped, worked, dined, and for all sorts of entertainment. ALL RIGHT THERE. Who would ever care WHAT the price of gasoline was? A bus to all of the sights that to us were normal ventures into a “fun” day or date,( yes, as a teenager we went on Saturdays to the museums, and spent the entire day there with our dates, & a group of close friends !! ) whether it be the very close Planetarium, & as for the Planetarium, we were there EVERYDAY during the summers when off of work…… went to the beach there, & just to cool off we’d pop in @ the Planetarium. We’d all go back in the evening to watch THE, “submarine races” & then walk from there to the Prudential bldg., and back, passing Buckingham Fountain every night 2 or more times… WHAT a CITY! The Museum of Natural History, the Art Institute, walkin’ all over the downtown area ( we even knew the traffic cop @ State & Madison on a 1st name basis !!! I treasure those memories & often think of how many youngsters miss the wonderful opportunity of growing up in a large metropolitan area. Too much fear out there of big cities….. from folks who’ve never spent time in ’em. SAFETY is simply common sense. Do your homework on any strange city or town you travel to….. & always ASK the local law enforcement officers …. about where NOT to walk….. goodness ladies, this took me back a few years…… to a very FUN time…… & now I’m even MORE home sick! I’m off of here & packin’ my overnight bag!! CIAO! for now, B

How about putting another frame around the mirror – meaning find some fantastic moulding and have it installed around a mirror. It could be painted, stained or gold leafed (or a combination of) depending on what your look you’re going for.

She is often a “DIY” kinda gal. That’s a wonderful idea. It would also allow her to enlarge one of many, that had seemed too small for the look she was trying to achieve. I’ll send that suggestion along to her. Thanks, most appreciated!! B

Thank You. That is helpful…. I’ll have her scan that site / catalog. Nothing too ornate, but “perfect” for a contemporary look…. simply looking for that 1 in a million for effect. Time is not an issue either, when you are patient it helps tremendously.
Thanks for your suggestion. Most appreciated !! B
