What is the goal of this website? I’m feeling the need to connect to other women my age who are working hard to keep up with the opportunities technology is providing. I want real life Over Fifty style and information. I think we are an under served market. Does anyone else agree?

Hi, I am in the mist of starting a web based business. Making the products had to come first. At my age, 58 I am excited about this new journey. I am forcing myself to learn different techologies to get my business to fly.
FOF is great in may ways! Lots to learn from women my age.

The goal of the site is supposed to be exactly what you wish; however, at times, and to my chagrin, it veers off to a younger set than those of us FOF. As for technology, I was using computers in the 1960s so I am very well-versed in that technology; however, lest we forget, it was a FOF female, Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, who invented the first compiler for a programming language for computers and it led to COBOL! She was 52 when she did it and the woman is so respected and renowned that she has a US Navy destroyer named after her and she is known as “Amazing Grace” in science circles. We FOF women ARE “under served” but we shouldn’t allow this to get in the way of our learning. It is quite true that we’re never too old to learn. Reinvent yourself if you have to! Go back to school and AUDIT computer classes. You don’t have to enroll as a full-time student! Hire a high school kid to teach you computer tricks you don’t know. This technology can enrich your life in ways you can’t even imagine. You can travel all over the world from your living room. The world’s finest museums and their contents are at your fingertips. Ditto the world’s finest libraries. You want style? All of the big couture houses have their wares online now. There is NOTHING you cannot access via a computer. You are as ignorant or uneducated as you alone choose to be today. A college degree online is an everyday opportunity. Ladies, no woman should be without her computer and what it offers. Age isn’t a deterrent unless you allow it to be. Yes. Technology changes at a breathtaking pace today. You don’t have to know everything about it, though. Hells bells! I’m still learning and I’m loving what the tablets offer, as well as the e-readers (another technology I can’t live without). When I have questions, I ask for answers in forums all over the internet. You want to fix your washer? Go online! My husband wanted to rebuild his boat engine. He went online! Nothing, absolutely nothing, is impossible today! Embrace technology and get ready for a wonderful ride no matter what age you are!

You’re preaching to the choir here. I’m hungry to connect with other FOF’s who have gotten their second wind. I am surprised how many of my friends are tiring out. I feel renewed, energized and excited about being a business owner. Raising my kids came first, and now I feel free forge ahead. I’m loving this age. I wish I could find others who feel the same. (obviously why I’m reaching out on FOF!) This is the time to do what you “gotta do”.

Not exactly! To this point in your life, you’ve spent your time doing what you had to do. Now is the time when you do what you WANT to do! You bet you’re energized! You are also re-focused! Forget those who are burned or tired out. Find new friends your age who are as rarin’ to do as you are! There are websites for women who are at your stage of life and these ladies are climbing mountains, parasailing, canoeing at camps for the over-50 ladies, learning, learning, learning. You don’t have to live a large city to find these types of women. online! Running a business at your age calls upon a host of experience that younger types do not have but you do! Just typing this makes me excited for you!

“gotta” means happily driven. Thanks for sharing your ideas. It’s great to connect with others who get it.

Yes, I agree that this is a GREAT age! We don’t care as much as we used to about what others think. We are freer to forge ahead, as you are doing! You go girl!

While I can’t speak for the goal of this website… I can say that I contribute to it because I enjoy being part of its “community” of mature women. When it comes to technology… I don’t even try to “keep up” … who can … it changes almost daily! I’m content to have decent working knowledge of the things that I use most… computer, phone, ipod, etc. Tell me what you mean when you say you want “real life Over Fifty style and information.”

I saw a front page ad or photo of really high red platform pumps. It just doesn’t seem aligned with this age group. Believe me, I hate frumpy shoes and clothes, but I also know I can’t wear really high platform heels any more. All in all, I am just challenged when it comes to shopping. I would love to see how middle income women over fifty can make it all work; hair, clothes, shoes, skin, fitness, etc. I’d get my eyes done if I had the extra money, but what if you don’t?

Ah. The lure of red pumps! I look at them like this… ‘i might not wear those… but i will wear these…” a sleek, sexy shoe that I CAN wear. I dress myself like I dress my homes… complimenting the architecture. Like you, I would like to see how other women my age (51 in a few weeks) navigate the changes brought about with time.
