For eye glass wearers like myself, giving more definition to the eyes is important. Use a eye shadow primer like Laura Mercier Eye Basics to help eye product stay put longer and to neutralize any discoloration that may be on the eyes. Then use a soft light to medium toned shadow on the eye lid. It can be a satin or very soft shimmer finish. Matte looks drying and too much shimmer doesn’t work either. Then take eye liner and make a thicker line across the upper lash line. The line doesn’t have to be perfect, but make it a stronger line. Then take a small angled or flat tipped eye liner brush and smooth out the line to soften it. Curl the lashes and put a few coats of volumizing mascara on.
For the lips, use a gloss instead of a lipstick. Gloss will soften the lip lines and make your lips look more full.

Here are some other tips I have that are easy to follow:

I am kicking and screaming as well! This “maturing skin” can be tricky to navigate and I have to admit I am not doing it very gracefully!

First and foremost, I recommend using a great skin care line, daily moisturizer, night moisturizer and possibly an under eye moisturizer. Every day. Being consistent with a good skin care regiment will not only help combat the aging process, it will keep your skin looking fresh and glowing.

I would shy away from powder foundation, instead I would use a lite formula, liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer (over your daily moisturizer) will help keeping your skin looking dewy and fresh.

As we age, most of us tend to get fine lines around our eyes and lips, and they both tend to start disappear. I always recommend keeping the attention on our eyes…. the window to our souls. By keeping everything else natural and soft, you will draw less attention to disappearing lips and fine lines and bring the attention back to your eyes. Remember, any color that has “shine added” such as metallic eye shadow or sparkly check color will draw attention to fine lines and changing skin texture rather than away from it.

To accentuate your eyes, make sure you have a great brow. Fill it in with a shadow that is the same color as your natural brow or a shade lighter than your hair color. I like using a shadow instead of a pencil because it is a softer look.

Softer cheek colors such as a peachy pink or soft rose on the apples of your cheeks will give you a youthful glow rather than a cheek with noticeable blush. With a well groomed brow and a youthful cheek, you frame your eye and start drawing the attention to them.

Both professionally and personally, I shy away from eye shadow, even mattes, because my eyelids are starting to get creapy. Instead I use a small amount of concealer under my eyes in the inner corners and on top of my lid to hid the discoloration, redness and dark circles. I like Laura Mercier concealer.

I then use a liner on right along my lash line on my upper lid. I use a pencil (try Mally Beauty eyeliners) and then blend it out with a shadow the same color. I use a brown, rather than black to keep it from looking too harsh. I follow up with 2-3 coats of water proof mascara to pump up my lashes and pop my eyes. You can also try a mascara that has a lash builder added to it. I like Cover girl lash blast.

Lastly I apply something to my lips. Even though they are fading, and fading fast, I don’t use lip liner. It tends to gather in fine lines and takes too much maintenance for my tastes. I do however use a lip gloss. Not a glittery one, just one that has a nice sheen to it. Again, I use a natural color vs one with a lot of color, keeping my lips soft and moist looking. I love Sephora lip gloss, it is not to sticky and they have a lot of great colors.

I know this is very wordy, but to me, this a topic worthy of lots of attention! Gracefully or not, aging is something we all have to learn how to deal with. I like that you are exploring options to help maintain your youthful glow! There is no better way to stay young then to learn.

    Hi there–

I have a template of sorts for gorgeous makeup for women over 50. It is primarily made of double duty products that make the best of your skin.
    It goes like this:
    1. Keep you skin supple and dewy — avoid powders like the plague. Try a tinted moisturizer or a healthy liquid foundation for your all over glow.
Try: Josie Maran Tinted moisturizer and Vapour Organic Beauty Atmosphere foundation

    2. Highlight cheekbones with a gorgeous rose toned blush that not only provides color, but highlights and sculpts as well.
Try: Laura Geller Blush n Brighten — Try Raspberry or Berry if you are fair, I love sunswept and golden apricot for tan to olive skin.

Tip: Apply blush on cheekbones starting at the temple. Bring down only to the end of your nose. Sweep the color over your eyelid for unity and a lift.

    3. Groom your eyebrows. This is the number one way to lift your face is to have great brows. Again, I love Laura Geller Brow tint — this awesome product not only colors your brows, but has tiny fibers that adhere to the skin where your hair may be sparse.
    Try Blonde.

    4. Apply a creamy eyeshadow, not matte. Use nothing powder on your eyelid. Lots of brands make creamy colors. From drugstore brands like Revlon to upper end brands like Bobbi Brown. Use a nude color over the entire lid for a base, then a bright color from your lash line to the crease. Top with lots of BLACK mascara.

    OR–

Apply an eyelid primer that obliterates all the ugly stuff on your eyelids — discoloration, veins etc– then use only a bright shimmery eyeliner. I love gel or cream liners which give more control. Low end — NYX, Black Radiance, Milani — they have AWESOME liners for cents per use. High end — I love Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier. Again lots of black mascara on upper lids only.

    5. Lips– for diminishing lips, be sure to use a light colored gloss or lipstick. Try the plumping sorts in rose/pinks for fair skin or peach/corals for tan skin.
Brands I love — theBalm, NYX, Too Faced, Clinique.

I hope this works. If you need more specific colors and brands or links, I would be happy to provide those.

I’m like you sister– NO GREY NO WAY. ; D

If you want to highlight your eyes, try using matte colors and try to bring your eye color out. For example, if your eyes are blue, then use brown shadow, maybe a khaki liner and make sure you use brow pencil. The brows can get lost under the glasses. Use a good eye cream too…Avon sells one in the Platinum line, and I swear by it. It really does help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

For your lips, use a lip liner that matches your lipstick. If your lips are thin, line just outside the lip line…it takes practice but after you apply your lipstick, your lips will look fuller.

    Good luck!! Chris
