Hi Fabulous FOF’s! I have a granddaughter getting married in July. It seems it will lean more to the casual side rather than formal. My question is that I will be turning 56 soon, I’m 5’7″ and in the plus size range of clothing. I don’t know what to look for to wear. Need your help!

First let me be the first to say…”Granddaughter getting married?? You look way too young for that!” LOL
I’m 54 and just recently married off my two oldest, and of that my oldest daughter went with ‘simple but classy’ type of wedding. (She got married outdoors in a State Park pavilion.) After I worried myself needlessly over what to wear, in the end I wore an elegant but simple long dress, in ‘earth tones’ go complement her earthy outdoor theme. I was comfortable all evening, didn’t embarrass anyone, and to be truthful, I don’t think anyone really cared what I wore except for close friends who said I ‘chose wisely and looked great’. So in closing…I suggest you wear something you’re comfortable in, no, not jeans and a sweatshirt….lol and just enjoy the evening. A nice long summer dress seems like just the ticket! Oh, and btw, i got both of my ‘mother dresses’ at Marshall Fields, they had a really nice selection in my size range (12 petite). Good Luck and have FUN!

Thank you so much for your sharing your thoughts with me! I hadn’t thought of Marshall Fields so thanks for the reminder. I know it doesn’t matter to anyone but me what I wear but when you’re plus size, at least for me, I’m more aware insecure) of how things look. Any way thanks for taking the time to answer my question!

renttherunway.com might have a designer dress you can rent. Just be comfortable in your skin and wear something comfortable. God Bless

It will be uncomfortably hot in July, so take a hint from the Moroccans, who manage to look fabulous when it’s too warm, and wear a caftan. You can buy one ready-made, or go shopping for fabric, and have it sewn for you. Since the fit is loose, even buying one online is safe. A good way to go is plain light silk or cotton, with gold jewelry and sandals. I’m dead against wearing pants in hot weather. Why not be covered in something other than perspiration?

    Hi Lori,
Many good recommendations here. I think a soft flow-y pant and tank would be perfect with a print kimono style jacket. There are some very pretty jackets online at Nordstroms by Citron. Add a long necklace and a strappy sandal and you will be the belle of the ball. Enjoy!

you can go in a gorgeous pants suit – something classy that you’ll be able to wear many more times. Go into the sites for some of the better stores & search under women’s separates. Then make the outfit look even better with beautiful shoes. You’ll feel comfortable, you’ll look gorgeous, you will be able to enjoy the look several times & you’ll stop the room when you walk in. Enjoy the wedding

Congratulations on your granddaughters impending wedding!

Lori, since you say the wedding may be more on the casual side, here’s a suggestion; have your dress custom made for that special day. Cassaundra Bourn creates dresses up to size 28 in a variety of styles and fabrics custom made to fit you. Best of all her prices are really reasonable, starting at $59.

Here’s a post about her http://bit.ly/yBbXfZ, and this is the link to her site http://www.ccbcustomdress.com/.

If you choose to work with her, please let me know how it works out for you.

    Lori-
I don’t know your personal style preference but I’d like to recommend LAUREN as it includes plus sizes and is generally tasteful in the tradition of classics. The line is in Macy’s and online of course. Go for simplicity and solids. Add well chosen accessories .
    Have fun!
