I was wondering if there is a hair care product that can help prevent the scalp from getting sunburned? I am not that crazy about hats when it’s hot!

Yes, there are sunscreen products formulated for scalps that work great. I’ve used them in the past, especially where my hair is parted and did not get sunburn. You can also use waterproof, oil-free sprays. Good luck – a burnt scalp is very painful!

Tela Guardian protects both the hair and scalp with spf 18. I think the Tela line of hair products is just brilliant. It’s available at Barneys and, I think, Nordstroms. Probably other places, too.

Protecting your skin is important, but so is protecting your whole body from toxins. The Environmental Working Group has a great database of sunscreens, rated for safety. Check it out at http://breakingnews.ewg.org/2012sunscreen/

Here is one that I really like, and it works! It’s by Shiseido and it can be used on the scalp specifically. http://bit.ly/JZbA8r

There are lots of hair sprays on the market that give UVA/UVB protection such as Ojon Color Sustain™ Gloss Finishing Hair Spray. John Frieda Sheer Blonde, and Samy Skyscraper contain sun protection as well. I would still wear a hat or scarf if I were going to be out for long periods of time, but my hair gets damaged from the sun pretty easily. There are many hair products that will give you protection at least in the short term.

Great question. I know there are products for the hair but I am unaware of any specifically for the scalp. Perhaps one of the non-greasy sprays might work. I will do some research to see if I can find anything. Good luck to you.
