It will probably be hot but then again it may be NOT. Watch the weather reports.
NO jeans, NO tennis shoes, NONE of those horrible zip off legged pants, and NO casual jacket. Good quality COMFORTABLE and already broken-in shoes, only 2 pairs, three at most. Think casual professional sort of look. Use one or two neutral basic colors, every top MUST match EVERY bottom. DO NOT take anything you can only wear one way. Everything must do multiple duty. Use inexpensive jewelry, light scarves and accessories to change it up. I escort tours of women to Europe. I would be happy to talk to you on the phone. I am actually writing a book on this very subject. Reply to this message and I will get you my phone number.

I hope you know that Paris practically closes down in August! It is their month of vacation and you could have problems. I don’t mean you can’t find a place to eat or visit the sites. Those are still open but most bistros, etc. do close. Museums and galleries definitely change their hours so check with your hotel before going. As for weather, well…Paris has changeable weather and there is no guarantee what it will be. Do bring a jacket for the evenings and, just maybe, the daytime. I went to Paris one August and nearly froze to death but the next August was warm. Bring an umbrella and a raincoat!!!! You will walk your legs off so do wear flats or tennis shoes. Scarves are big in Paris and the women are so tres chic. They wear comfortable and beautiful simple clothing. I don’t know how they do it but they could buy something from Goodwill and make it look like it’s couture! Slacks are very acceptable. Evening wear is also simple and, if you are going to a swank eatery, dress up a little but don’t overdo it. You won’t see sequins, etc. on anyone except tourists. Just have fun, smile a lot and ask a lot of questions. Parisians love to talk about their city!

A feminine look with comfort in mind is always best – a flirty dress or skirt with a simple blouse and flat shoes or sandals. French women are simple and elegant and carry it off with ease. Stick to classics and neutrals – avoid the trendy neons. And….have a GREAT time!

I’d like to offer a link to a Fodor forum discussion that includes information on clothing in Paris. The initial query is from a 51 year old woman and within the disucssion is a link to an article specifically about Paris. Try this out: http://www.fodors.com/community/europe/clothing-for-london-paris-and-rome-in-august.cfm

    Have a wonderful trip.
