If you have found something, please let us know your success story. I too have been laid off, twice since 2009. I have found the best way is to play the numbers game…with email, to as many employers as possible. Maybe set yourself a goal of 10 a day. Find the places you want to work, and the places that offer your kind of work whether they are currently advertising or not. Send them a cover letter with your resume by email. You can probably find a contact on their website. It works. This how I found my current job. Yes, it is a cold call, but by email, what have you got to lose?? Pvb

Maybe at this point you have found something, but have you been to any job fairs? There is a Job Resource Fair on August 18 that is sponsored by congressman Mike Quigley. It is being held at Northside College Prep H.S. at 5501 N. Kedzie Ave. from 10 am to 2 pm. For more info. you can call 773-267-5926.

Found a site with some great accounts payable job listings in your area:

    http://www.simplyhired.com/a/jobs/list/q-accounts payable/l-chicago, il

Now 53, I have found that feeling great about who I am, being confident with my decades of experience, and looking sassy has under-50 employers praying they can afford me 😉

    Hope this helps.

Part of it is being prepared for the job you are looking for; make sure your resume reflects what the company is hiring; attend networking events and keep your name out there. Talk to accounting companies as they often have clients looking. You are still young!

    Hi Nellbob55,
I completely ‘get’ how difficult this is …networking is key and thinking of creative ways to uncover opportunities is a full time job. Have you put your name out to ‘Temp’ agencies…? I would think that is the best way to get your foot in the door. You are lucky to live in Chicago.
If you would like to send me your resume (I’m in the Chicago area) I’ll see if I can think of anything that could be helpful to your mission. Best of luck to you… 🙂
