Instead of wearing all dark colors to hide heaviness. What bright colors can you wear that would help in hiding some but not all the heaviness?

Go to what’s known as “jewel box” colors! Sapphire, emerald green, ruby, etc. are fantastic colors that aren’t black or brown and they look stunning on women of any weight or age. A shell in one of these colors under a suit is especially pretty and draws the attention to your face. Just don’t cut yourself in half by wearing a bright colored skirt or pants. Make it an all-in-one outfit instead. Remember to change your makeup a bit when wearing bright colors, as they can make you look faded out if your makeup isn’t up-to-date too. A good department store cosmetics representative can help you a lot in this regard and their help is FREE!

More than color or pattern is the cut and quality of the item. Many women think clothes too large will make them look smaller, mistake. The smallest part of the waist should match where you are smallest, if you have a waistline an empire waist will not flatter you. Choose colors that you love, that flatter you, in a cut that accents your good points and downplays the bad. Try on lots of styles even ones that you never considered before. You may be surprised. If you have a friend who can be honest with you take her with you.

I agree with the answers below! Choose a color that YOU feel comfortable in, that expresses your personality as well. Confidence goes light years beyond wearing anything (color) that is deemed “body friendly” That said, I recently had to choose a mother of the bride ensemble and was worried about being subjected to dull or dark colors to compliment my body shape. I had a wonderful shopping experience with this line called Marisa Baratelli where they offer color customization for your outfit! There were so many choices I first seemed overwhelmed but in the end I wore something bright, happy and slimming. You simply have to try and see what works best for you, and what YOU feel good in. Try things on and ask for a second opinion from someone you trust. You’ll be surprised what you are willing to try!

I think it’s not so much about the color but how it’s placed and the fabric of the garment. A solid color (top/bottom) creates a “clean” column of color. I find I am continually drawn to that simple, bold statement.

The weight of the fabric used makes a difference as well. Anything light weight and “clingy” shows every curve. A heavier knit will skim the body and actually flatter it!

    Good luck!

Think “vertical” tree_treat. The belief that dark colors are slimming is a limiting and somewhat misguided dressing rule. It’s not so much the color that you wear, but the PLACEMENT of that color that holds the power to visually slenderize! Maintain a line of solid color down the center of your body to draw the eye inward. Surround your face with attractive color and accessories to keep attention at your facial features instead of your thighs (or tummy, or hips, or whatever area you aim to detract from). And be sure that all design lines and garment breaks are vertical and not horizontal. Then, choose colors that you love and that harmonize with your personal design pattern to look your most healthy, youthful, and vibrant self! See an illustration here: http://bit.ly/slimming_color
