{What do you think of this look?}

We spotted this FOFierce lady in front of the legendary Balthazar bakery in Soho, New York City. If there’s anyone that could pull off these gold, pleated, parachute pants–we’d nominate this FOF. With her glowing smile, stylish haircut and confident stance, really is there any outfit she couldn’t ace? See what our style experts think, then tell us: Does she look avant garde or caught off guard?

—————————————————————————————————

Lovey Dash: “This woman looks FAB. She’s in great shape and shows it off well with her white top. I love that she tied her hair back nice and neat. Wild and loose hair would not have worked with all that pant. Speaking of which, the pants are wild, but she looks great–pleats please! The short booties she chose are a little heavy but they work. I would have preferred a strappy bootie sandal such as studded Valentinos. The bag works. A couple of bangles would also have been good. Overall she’s a winner in my book and sure knows how to show off her assets!”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler (The Glam Gals): “This stunning, confident woman could pull off wearing almost anything with her pretty face and that rockin’ body…oops, except for these oyster mushroom diaper pants. We say, ditch the pants and you’re halfway there! Keep the boots, untuck the top and throw on a bra with some tight, dark wash jeans. For the fun factor, add a bold chunky necklace. Now you have the recipe for one hot mamma!”

“Glam Gals” Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

.

Sandra Soich: “I like her clean lines. Her hair suits her, both the cut and the color are perfect. Her body hugging top shows a confident, well-toned woman. And, then we arrive at the pants…simply a fashion NO. Too much going on. Everything else is so right and then the pant
throws a glitch into the look. ”

Sandra Soich is wardrobe stylist to the stars and founder of YourFashionTherapist.com.

.

Sherrie Mathieson: “I feel like a broken record with my repetitive critique of ladies who can’t let go of contrived 80s looks that are attempting to be artsy or “interesting.” Top Asian designers of the 80s invented looks like these (at the time, truly innovative) and spread to the streets of Soho. Today, the watered down interpretations look simply tired.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Terry Gibralter: “I really don’t like the look of the pants on this FOF. I’m not sure if they’re Issey Miyake or Miyake-wannabes but in either case they’re super unflattering. They make her waist look very wide and I don’t think a lightweight pleated pant should be paired with a wintery ankle boot. Not sure I’m loving the skin tight boob flattening tank top either. However, I really like her confident pose and great smile.”

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

.

Susan Hersh: “I love her short silver hair and her artsy style. The Fortuny pant is original
and paired with the white tank, she has sex appeal. Great abs, firm arms–this lady should strut her stuff. The geometric bag is a winner. The shoes are a little heavy…but who’s looking down anyway?”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

{What do you think of this look?}

With temperatures pushing 100 degrees in New York City last week, FOFs tried to look cool and keep cool. Did this woman succeed? See what our style experts think then tell us in the comments below: Is her outfit haute or a hot mess?

—————————————————————————————————

.
Glenyse Thompson: “I love her outfit, she looks really cool. The fitted tee provides balance to her looser, pintucked skirt. By adding the flat sandals with complementary colors–she’s exuding a casual yet comfortable elegance. It’s a DO!”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

.

.
Sherrie Mathieson: “In the 80s women wearing looks like this aspired to mimic [designers] Comme Des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto. But today the look is tired, dated, unflattering and truly overwhelms her as does her unwieldy bag.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Lovey Dash: “[This look is] somewhere in the middle for me. I have seen this skirt on a few people in the last month actually. That being said, the skirt is okay, the sandal is okay…but: TAKE OFF THAT HEAVY BAG! We also need some fun bangles, fun earrings, a great necklace or a bolero top in a fun color. If it’s hit or miss I would have to say, ‘miss.’”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler (The Glam Gals): “This attractive gal is looking to project her creative side but we say, No ‘Curtain Call’ for this look. It appears as though she stole her skirt straight off drapery rods and that it is homemade with a few safety pins holding it up. Not only that, but her large black tote bag is overwhelming and covers up her nice figure. Even when dressing casually, you want your clothes to look classy and this outfit looks more like a costume.”

“Glam Gals” Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

.

.
Susan Grant: “Age appropriate–yes, hot-weather appropriate–yes, figure flattering–no! I would exchange the voluminous, dated, tie-dyed skirt for a neater, more polished look–either slim, low-belted cropped slacks or a more streamlined skirt.”

Susan Grant is merchandise manager for Muse, a full-service jewelry showroom.

.

Susan Hersh: “Everything is so oversized including the handbag, dress and sunglasses–it makes you feel like she’s hiding. I would suggest downsizing the bag to a smaller, feminine one. The metallic sandals are the lightest part of this outfit and a good choice for the hard-to-miss, artsy, ombre dress that I’m still on the fence about.”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

{What do you think of this look?}

With her black leather motorcycle jacket and ankle boots, the only thing this FOF is missing is her Harley. But, was she asleep at the wheel when she got dressed? We asked our style experts to decide. Read their responses, then tell us what you think: Is this FOF biker chic or fashion roadkill?

—————————————————————————————————

Sherrie Mathieson: “Reminds me of Mammy Yokum in a ‘Li’l Abner’ cartoon. Undoubtedly, her wish was to be hip and cool but instead, she succeeds at looking silly. [I bet] she’s comfortable, but she would have been way ahead had she nixed the boots that swallow her bare legs and instead, worn black ballerina flats.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Lovey Dash: “Let me just say I would not wear this look for all the tea in China. However it works, not for me, but for her…The jacket is great and I love the tee with the necklace. I also love the boots. If the skirt were shorter, then she could have been okay without tights. But since it’s not, she should have worn Wolford opaque or micro fishnet tights. All in all not fashion roadkill, not biker chic but, she pulled it off.”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.

Deborah Boland and Jojami Tyler  (The Glam Gals): “BOOT this look out the door! This gal isn’t sure if she is a private school student or a motorcycle gang member and those boots look like galoshes you’d throw on to wade in your bathroom if your toilet overflowed.”

“Glam Gals” Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland co-write the brilliant fashion blog, Fabulous After 40.

.

Glenyse Thompson: “[She’s] fashion roadkill. The whole outfit is wrong. I understand the need for protection if you ride a motorcycle or scooter, but you can still dress fashionably and protect yourself. 1981 is calling and it wants that skirt back. A pair of fitted pants would have easily made this outfit a ‘do.'”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

.

Susan Grant: “This ensemble works well and is age appropriate with the exception of the footwear. The height of the boot and its tight fit over the ankle looks awkward. I would add black tights and swap the ankle boots for a knee-high, flat boot or a low-heeled pump for a more polished look.”

Susan Grant is merchandise manager for Muse, a full-service jewelry showroom.

{What Do You Think Of This Look?}

We spotted this FOF handbag designer, at a recent accessories show (really, how could we miss her?). We’re still undecided on her tie-dye pants, but one thing we’re sure about: it takes guts at any age to sport them! What do you think? Is her outfit tie dye for?

—————————————————————————————————

Sandra Soich: “Chic! The FOF’s overall look is a class act. Her hair is sleek and clean, jewelry is great and I love the top. The pants are “out there” but good…and I love the shoes. I think the look is very current…a la 7th Ave!”

Sandra Soich is wardrobe stylist to the stars and founder of YourFashionTherapist.com.

.

Susan Hersh: “Printed pants are a huge trend this season but tucked into her funky shoes, these tie-dye pants almost look like pajamas. Her black shirt looks very heavy–the weight of the fabric looks might be more appropriate for fall.”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

.

Sherrie Mathieson: “I love the low-key top paired with the colorful eye-catching pant. The top and bottom are in perfect balance, and more importantly–they flatter her. I also love her tailored, modern Hermes ‘Collier de Chien’ bracelet as well as the other ethnic-inspired jewelry. I would have maybe chosen between the two different styles. The high-heeled booties give her the long-legged look she needs to carry off the voluminous print pant–perfect! Even her painted toenails pick up one of the blue shades in her pant. She’s youthful, appropriate, and creative–kudos!”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Lovey Dash: “I love her Hermes wrist band, pant, open-toed bootie and short, black top–great proportions and great colors. Her hair tied back is so nice, neat and right with this look. This is the best “What Do You Think of This Look” I have seen yet!”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.

Terry Gibralter: “I really don’t hate her look but that said, I don’t love it either. Overall, it’s coming off a bit sloppy. I don’t like the proportions of the short-ish classic blouse with shirttail out over the pants and I really don’t like how the soft unfitted pants pool at the ankles of her boots. The boots are quite cool however, but they would be better with structured, form-fitting pants. That being said, she’s in great shape and could probably pull off the wild pants just paired with something more fitting like sandals or tennis shoes and a slightly longer, more casual top.”

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

{What Do You Think Of This Look?}

Black is the new… black?! Okay, okay, there’s nothing new about it, especially on the streets of New York City, where we spotted this FOF and where dressing dark is practically the law of the land. But, there’s a right way and a wrong way to don the inky hue–where does this FOFit in? First, read what our style gurus think. Then, tell us: Is she a black sheep or black beauty?

—————————————————————————————————

Glenyse Thompson: “Oh my! Love the coat, classic Louis Vuitton tote, chic jewelry and patent walking shoes. She looks comfortable and elegant until you hit those hips. I want to be polite but…those pants are hideous. Fitted jeans or pants with a slight flare at the ankle would have made this outfit a black beauty.”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

.

Susan Grant: “Too much going on–fringed detail on the jacket, the print-patterned slacks and shiny shoes, plus, the ensemble doesn’t flatter this woman’s figure. The length of the jacket, (perhaps hiked up by the bag on her shoulder) draws attention to her hips. The pegged pants do the same. Straight legged slacks would give her a leaner line and a more sophisticated look. They would also draw less attention to the shoes, which I assume she’s wearing for comfort.”

Susan Grant is merchandise manager for Muse, a full-service jewelry showroom.

.

Sherrie Mathieson: “Her look is quite good except for the pant that would have been better in solid black. She combines her darks and lights well with a touch of unexpected turquoise. She also balances the feminine (frilly jacket and jewelry) with the sporty bag and shoes really well. Her patent shoes look comfortable, practical and a stylish choice for a lady her age. ”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Terry Gibralter: “Unfortunately, I don’t like much about this FOF’s look. The head-to-toe black is too harsh and draining for her. I find the entire outfit to be quite unflattering. The heavy shawl-collared jacket with fringe swallows her up and I really don’t get the pants–are they capri length with socks showing or is that their design? Whichever it is, they are the wrong look for her. The shoes might be okay paired with some other outfit. The small print neutral scarf doesn’t do much. I don’t mind her large Louis Vuitton tote. Definitely a black sheep!”

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

.

Susan Hersh: “The shawl collar fringe jacket is stunning and like a true New Yorker this woman is sporting the right, stylish and comfortable walking shoe. The printed slim pant with faux leather ankle band looks inexpensive to me compared to the rest of her luxe outfit. Additionally, it makes her legs look short and her figure appear pear shaped. Solid black leggings or slim leg trousers would be more flattering.”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

.

Sandra Soich: “Black Sheep! There’s nothing about this look that appeals to my styling senses. First of all, this is not age appropriate. Starting from the bottom up, the shoes are so heavy and awkward looking. Then we travel up to the double pant attempt which is very unattractive. The coat could pass the test. The accessories (scarf, jewelry and bag) just look dated. And, to finish, the hair looks so unkempt and the color needs some work.”

{What Do You Think Of This Look} Matching Mom and Daughter

“Like mother, like daughter,” never rang truer. We spotted these tourists from Europe outside of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Both are sporting the same look–oversized scarves, teeny cross-body bags, tailored blazers and standout sneakers. What do you think? Is this the mother (and daughter) of all outfits or mother-daughter disaster?

—————————————————————————————————

Sherrie Mathieson: Sorry to say, mom’s attempt to mimic her daughter is only accentuating her personal style ineptitude. The daughter’s scarf is overwhelming–she tried for hip and missed the mark, but it’s forgivable at her age. As for mom, she takes it to a totally heightened silly and inappropriate level. They would both truly would benefit from my book “Steal This Style: Moms and Daughters Swap Wardrobe Secrets.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

.

Terry Gibralter: What’s not to love?  This stylish, adorable mother-daughter duo look great! I love how they’re wearing the exact same items (boy blazers, fitted jeans/jodhpurs, cross-body bags, high-tops and long scarves) but the colors and cuts are totally their own. Mom is incredibly youthful so she can really pull this look off. The daughter looks like she’s learned at mom’s knee.  Very cool!

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.

.

Glenyse Thompson: “You have to wonder–did the daughter dress her mom? The daughter looks as she should, like a teenager. Mom could have easily made this outfit a ‘do’ by switching into fitted pants or leggings, and adding a pretty flat.”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

.

Susan Hersh: “Mom had fun sporting jodhpurs, a long-sleeved pink tee, piped jacket and a leopard print scarf–quite the unexpected look! However, the custom Nike sneakers are a miss. Sneakers for touring are acceptable, but she should have opted for a cleaner cut such as Converse ‘Jack Purcell.’ The daughter has nice flair at such a young age. The scarf is a bit oversized for her tiny frame but…does it really matter?”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

.

.
Sandra Soich: “They look great! It’s interesting that the difference in style between generations is minimal. They’re both casual chic with a European flavor. I just think they should have swapped shoes!”

Sandra Soich is wardrobe stylist to the stars and founder of YourFashionTherapist.com.

.

Lovey Dash: Love this look! They brighten up what looks to be a dreary day up with their outfits. Love the custom Nikes, Louis Vuitton leopard scarf and trendy snake bag on Mom. Everything just works. The daughter is right on as well. Her yellow sneakers are adorable. A dynamic duo!

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.

Jojami and Deborah: “This Mom must have had the song ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ stuck in her head when she purchased these crazy tennis shoes. While we are all for having something creative in your wardrobe these just look like she is trying too hard to keep up with her little fashion plate of a daughter. While this FOF is certainly youthful-looking, if her daughter wasn’t standing next to her, you would think, ‘why did she put those shoes with that outfit?’”

{What do you think of this look?} Efva Attling

This woman has it all: confidence, little black dress, leather, retro glasses, platforms and a peace sign.….oh, and might we also mention–she’s Sweden’s most famous jewelry designer, Efva Attling. Efva’s pieces have appeared everywhere from Madonna’s neck to H&M stores. But, what do you think FOFs–is she queen of accessories or queen of excess?
—————————————————————————————————

Sherrie Mathieson: “The mix of feminine and masculine pieces are original and really right for her. I love the neutral palette, the proportions and use of repeated, interesting textures. She went easy on the black leather–keeping it soft and sporty. The peace sign keeps her youthful and modern. Right-on!”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Lovey Dash: “I love the way she looks and her attitude. The jacket would not have been my first choice but…it works. The dress length makes her outfit age appropriate and her oversized bag is ready for a day of schlepping. It’s different, refreshing, fun…she’s rocking it!”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

.
Terry Gibralter: “I love her fun-loving expression…but, unfortunately I don’t love the outfit. That fit and flare dress feels too feminine and at odds with the other elements. I’d prefer it with more classic pieces like a trench coat and pumps. That strappy thing with the peace sign—is it jewelry or suspenders? I can’t figure it out. ”

Terry Gibralter is the Sr. Vice President and Creative Director at Grey advertising as well as a fashion stylist and the creator of these clever work accessories.
.

Susan Hersh: “I really like the leather bomber jacket and handbag–very original. Two-tone platform wedges are cool this season, but the harness necklace, beaded ankle bracelets and leather band below the knee are trying to be “too cool”. This woman overkilled a really good outfit with too many accessories. ”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

{What do you think of this look?} Seventies chic…or stuck in a time warp?

Spotted at Fashion Week….When this FOF got dressed she was clearly thinking 70s glam–with her shaggy vest, round shades and wide-legged trousers. But, did she ace this retro redux or should we send her back to Studio 54?

—————————————————————————————————

Sherrie Mathieson: “It takes a very pretty, well-proportioned, slim woman to pull off this demanding look–the bulk, the color, the high waist. She succeeds. I love the snakeskin accessory choices and 70s inspired necklace.”

Sherrie Mathieson is a leading style expert and Random House author of Steal this Style and Forever Cool.

Lovey Dash: “She is not stuck in a time warp, she’s stuck in fashionista land. She has the whole thing going, from snake accessories to winter white, big glasses, a ratty fur vest and the high-waisted pant which made a comeback this year. I would have preferred a more simple top, perhaps a tonal cashmere tee from Kors, but hey, what do I know?”

Lovey Dash is a Beverly Hills-based stylist. She was formerly in VIP sales for Louis Vuitton on Rodeo Drive.

Glenyse Thompson: “Love everything! This is what monochromatic magic looks like. Her Mongolian vest is warm and luxurious–great for running to and from New York Fashion Week shows. The snakeskin clutch, textured shoes and statement necklace bring warmth to her neutral palette. Best of all, she looks confident, comfortable and chic.”

Glenyse Thompson is a personal home and wardrobe stylist and the creator of Styleosophy.

Susan Hersh: “Her fur vest is very chic this season, but the monochromatic look is very old. The shirt tucked into the trouser is not flattering for her figure–it makes her appear wide in the hip area. I would swap it for a slim trouser and untuck the shirt in a more fluid way. The sandal should be updated to a bootie. However, the python clutch is fashionable and the necklace makes a strong statement with the vest.”

Susan Hersh is a Ford model and the host and executive producer of Meet The Experts.

Sandra Soich: “This woman is definitely in a time warp. However, the blouse looks great, as well as her necklace. The glasses and bag work well with the other elements. And, of course, the hair is perfectly ‘70s. Not only is she in a time warp but she’s also in a city warp…I could swear she was in LA!”

Sandra Soich is wardrobe stylist to the stars and founder of YourFashionTherapist.com.

{Style Expert} How would you fix this look?

When it comes to Fashion Week Street Style–some FOFs nail it, and others miss entirely. Then there are the FOFew that fall somewhere in between, like this woman, who wore a masculine tweed suit to the Ralph Lauren show. Her intentions were right, but the the end result was more fox hunt than foxy. Let’s not FOFashion-bash her–let’s help her fix her look. We brought in two experts, Jojami Tyler and Deborah Boland “The Glam Gals” behind brilliant style blog, Fabulous After 40.

—————————————————————————————————

Deb: Whoa, Wouldn’t want to mess with this lady!

Jojami: She looks like Annie Hall meets the Sopranos–very masculine.

Both: A touch of femininity would work wonders. We say ditch the white shirt and tie for a soft silk blouse with a loose bow. Oh, and get some Spanx to smooth out that tummy.

Zara Blouse With Bow Collar, $79.90; Spanx Simplicity High Waist Panty, $52

FOFs, do you agree? How would you fix her look?

{What do you think of this look?} Academy Awards Edition

If you were watching the Oscars, we applaud you. It took some serious commitment to stick it out to the end. We also applaud our two favorite performances–both of which came from FOF men. First, a knockout hosting job by Billy Crystal; second, the best acceptance speech of the night from Christopher Plummer, Best Supporting Actor winner. As for the FOF Oscar Fashion . . . well, we weren’t exactly bowled over. Honestly, our Fab sisters made a better showing at some of the earlier-season award shows. At least, that’s our vote . . . but what do you think?

Glenn Close

Glenn Close found her power color when she pulled on this form-fitting Zac Posen gown and paired it with a very smart, tuxedo-style blazer. Buuut, when we watched her live interview on the red carpet, things fell apart. The jacket and dress pulled awkwardly across her arms, chest, thighs and belly. In the end, it was like she was battling a green serpent. A very pretty green serpent.

Meryl went gold and green in this Lanvin gown, which was part of the eco-friendly dress campaign organised by Colin Firth’s wife, Livia.
