{Tested} Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner

—————————————————————————————————

RevítaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner was developed by Dr. Michael Brinkenhoff as a gift to his wife Gayle, whose eyelashes had become thin and fragile after she underwent intensive chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. Using a proprietary blend of ingredients, including powerful peptides and soothing botanicals, Dr. Brinkenhoff and the chemists from Athena Cosmetics created a product they promise will “beautify and nourish the eyelashes” of any FOF. According to the RevítaLash website, a clinical study showed “over 97% of users saw an improved appearance of their eyelashes in only 3 weeks!”

Is it as lashtastic as its manufacturer claims? 5 FOFs put this lash-lengthener to the test. Read on.

Quick take: 3 out of 5 testers would continue using RevítaLash.

Catherine Moore – Blowing Rock, NC

Was this product easy to use?
Extremely easy. Apply nightly before bedtime as part of your normal routine.

Did you notice any changes in your lashes? What changes did you notice?
In just the first two weeks I noticed much fuller and longer lashes–a significant difference. I had previously used Latisse and this product produced comparable results, possibly more quickly.

{click here to read all the reviews!}

Do you think this product is a good way to achieve longer, thicker and fuller looking lashes?
Absolutely, with consistent use.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
I plan to purchase it as soon as this one is gone!

Would you recommend it to other FOFs?
Yes.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I have been using this for four weeks and have not noticed any discoloring of eyelid or eye as is sometimes reported with use of other products like this.

On a scale of 1 (ugh, this was the worst) to 5 (loved it) what would you rate this product?
5.

—————————————————————————————————

Esther Bradley-Detally – Pasadena, CA

Was this product easy to use?
Yes.

Did you notice any changes in your lashes? What changes did you notice?
I think they are growing, they look slightly darker and a few lashes may have come out.

Do you think this product is a good way to achieve longer, thicker and fuller looking lashes?
I’m not sure.

Would you continue using this product?
I want to continue using it a few more weeks before I decide.

Would you recommend it to other FOFs?
Not until I see more progress.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
The directions say apply to the base of your eyelashes above the level of your skin. This was confusing. I didn’t use it on bottom lashes.

On a scale of 1 (ugh, this was the worst) to 5 (loved it) what would you rate this product?
2 or 3.

—————————————————————————————————

Joanna Baker – Cleveland Heights, OH

Was this product easy to use?
Yes.

Did you notice any changes in your lashes? What changes did you notice?
There may be a small change in the thickness of my lashes; more on the left eye than the right.

Do you think this product is a good way to achieve longer, thicker and fuller looking lashes?
I think that using it for a longer time may indeed achieve these reults.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
Yes, I will definitely continue using this product. I feel like the results will be greater with longer usage.

Would you recommend it to other FOFs?
Depending on price, I may or may not recommend it.

—————————————————————————————————

Joan Carfango – Bronx, NY

Was this product easy to use?
Yes.

Did you notice any changes in your lashes? What changes did you notice?

Lashes that were already long, got longer.

Do you think this product is a good way to achieve longer, thicker and fuller looking lashes?
No.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
No, because it didn’t do what I wanted it to–improve my broken lashes.

Would you recommend it to other FOFs?
Only if all your lashes are intact.

—————————————————————————————————

Padma Narasimhan–Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Was this product easy to use?
Yes.

Did you notice any changes in your lashes? What changes did you notice?
My eyelashes did get thicker.

Do you think this product is a good way to achieve longer, thicker and fuller looking lashes?
Yes.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
I don’t need it anymore because now that I’ve used this product for some time, I have good eyelashes! But, perhaps after some time passes, yes, I’d use it again.

Would you recommend it to other FOF members?
Yes, if you have sparse eyelashes, this helps.

On a scale of 1 (ugh, this was the worst) to 5 (loved it) what would you rate this product?
4.

{Test This} Couture Gel Nail Polish Kit

It seemed like gel manicures were the answer to our prayers–the chip-free, smudge-less gel polish dries in two minutes flat and maintains an unworldly shine…for weeks! We’re sold on the concept, but not so much on the $40-per-application salon bill.

So, when we heard that Couture Gel Nail Polish released a kit which provides you with “everything you need for a salon-quality gel nail polish manicure at home”–we couldn’t help but wonder: was this the perfect ten?

The kit retails for $129 and contains 3 shades of polish, a base coat, a top coat, a salon nail care kit, a zippered carrying case, a UV lamp and an instructional DVD. The manufacturer promises “easy application,” a “2-minute dry time that results in diamond-hard nails,” “a 3-week hold that continues to look fresh until you take it off,” and “no smearing, chipping, smudging, or scratching off — ever.” Did they nail it with this one? We want to know! 7 FOFs will test this at-home gel manicure kit.

{Tested} Blinc Mascara

—————————————————————————————————

Like something out of a sci-fi movie, Blinc Mascara forms tiny, water resistant “tubes” around your lashes to “add volume and legnth.”

Blinc’s manufacturers claim the “tube technology,” works so well that you’ll never get raccoon eyes again. “It cannot run, smudge, clump, or flake…even if you rub your eyes, cry or sweat,” they say. It also doesn’t require makeup remover to take off–just use water, apply pressure and “the tubes will effortlessly slide off your lashes into your hand.”

Sounds tubular–but is it true? We sent Blinc to 5 FOFs to test. What’d they think? Read on.

Quick take: 4 out of 5 testers would recommend Blinc mascara to other FOFs.

—————————————————————————————————

Cydya Smith – New York, N.Y.

Was this product easy to use?
Very easy and does not make a mess.

Did it run, smudge, clump or flake?
It does not run, clump or flake (even when I slept in it by accident).

{click here to read all the reviews!}

Did it add length and volume to your lashes?
It added length and volume especially when I applied 2 or 3 coats and it looks natural.

Was it easily removed?
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
Yes because it did not irritate my eyes and was not a mess.

Would you recommend this product to other FOF members?
Yes, without reservation.

—————————————————————————————————

Jeanne Traxler — Brookline, MA

Was this product easy to use?
It goes on like a regular mascara, although they recommend you shake the wand as you put it on, but that was simple enough.

Did it run, smudge, clump or flake?
No, it stays put even when you rub your eyes or if your eyes water. I also thought it did a good job of separating and coating each lash.

Did it add length and volume to your lashes?
A little length, but not too much volume. As an FOF, I don’t want too much volume and thickness on a daily basis anyway. That might scream ‘I’m trying too hard.’ This mascara is great for daily wear.

Was it easily removed?
Yes, the removal is fabulous! As advertised, you just soak it with lots of warm water and poof!–the tubes slide off and wash away. It’s quick and you don’t have to rub the sensitive skin under your eyes or eyelids at all. If you wear this mascara to bed, some of it flakes a bit, but you don’t wake up with raccoon eyes.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
Yes–this is fantastic! In a 40 degree whipping wind with tears running down my nose it stayed right on. It’s easy to remove but doesn’t come off every time you touch your eyes. The fact that you don’t have to rub to get it off is key–when you are older you try to protect the delicate skin around the eyes as it thins.

Would you recommend this product to other FOF members?
Yes, I would highly recommend it. It’s even worth indulging.

—————————————————————————————————

Denise Morelli — Harrison City, P.A.

Was this product easy to use?
No. The brush was too long and I had to remove smudges from around my eye area during application.

Did it run, smudge, clump or flake?
No. As promised by the manufacturer, once applied this product stays on until you remove it.

Did it add length and volume to your lashes?
Length–no. It simply covered the length I already had. Volume–yes. It appeared as if I had more lashes but nothing extraordinary.

Was it easily removed?
Yes. Warm water combined with slight pressure does remove the ‘tubes’ from the lashes.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
No. For me, it was too fussy. The application was difficult. You have to get the application right the first time or start over as the tubes set within 2 minutes. Also, the instructions say not to put moisturizer on your face before application. Instead, I put moisturizer after applying the mascara which was tricky.

Would you recommend this product to other FOF members?
Only if you have a problem with your mascara running or smudging. Once applied, it does stay on even when wet or if you rub your eyes. It is also easier to remove than regular waterproof mascara. If you don’t need this feature and are looking for long, full, lashes–you can use a different mascara and get the results for a lot less money.

—————————————————————————————————

Gwen Reich – Coppell, TX

Was this product easy to use?
It was very easy to use. I got better at applying it after the first few times.

Did it run, smudge, clump or flake?
Not at all. It is AMAZING.

Did it add length and volume to your lashes?
Yes. Definitely length and because each lash looked fatter, it appeared I had more lashes.

Was it easily removed?
Yes, with a little warm water and gentle pressure.

Would you continue using this product?  Why or why not?
Definitely. I had not worn mascara in over two years because it was too frustrating to find an affordable brand that didn’t end up all under my eyes.

Would you recommend this product to other FOF members?
Definitely. I have already recommended it to others. Since I haven’t worn mascara in a couple of years, I can’t compare this one to the other new mascaras on the market, but I absolutely love it and will continue to use it.

—————————————————————————————————

MAUREEN CARROLL – New Fairfield, CT

Was this product easy to use?
It went on more smoothly than my normal mascara on my top lashes. My bottom lashes tend to cross over, my normal mascara pulls them apart but this one didn’t. However it was easy to correct.

Did it run, smudge, clump or flake?
No.

Did it add length and volume to your lashes?
Yes.

Was it easily removed?
It came off easily in the shower.

Would you continue using this product?  Why or why not?
Definitely.  I trust it much more than my old mascara.  I’m a crier and because of this, I often won’t wear mascara on my bottom lashes. In this case–no telltale smudges.

Would you recommend this product to other FOF members?
Definitely.

{Test This} Murad’s Time Release Retinol Concentrate for Deep Wrinkles

—————————————————————————————————

Dermatologists and skin experts have long relied on retinol to treat wrinkles and uneven skin tone. But for those of us with sensitive skin, retinol can be irritatingly…irritating. Enter Murad’s Time Release Retinol Concentrate for Deep Wrinkles ($65), which just hit the market last week. “Clinical studies have shown it to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by 45% in 6 weeks,” according to the Murad website, and the new “time release technology . . . reduces the sensitivity some may have to retinol.”

{Test This} Josie Maran Argan Balm

—————————————————————————————————

Argan oil–an extract from the kernels of the argan tree–is known in Morocco as “liquid gold” for its healing, conditioning and anti-aging properties. “There are few-to-no formal studies proving a measurable effect of argan oil on skin health,” says Dr. Jessica Krant, a NYC-based dermatologist. “However, the promise is great–it contains vitamin E, many essential fatty acids, and other antioxidants.”

This week, we’re conducting our own “study”: 8 FOFs will put Josie Maran Argan Balm (retail value: $42) to the test. The balm is made of shea butter infused with Argan oil, and“creates a protective barrier to seal in hydration and leaves the skin softer and more supple,” according to the Josie Maran website. The company claims distressed skin will be relieved “instantly,” and also suggest using it on unruly cuticles, dry feet and frizzy hair.

We want you to tell us: Is this balm a bomb…or a blessing?

{Tested} Beecology Buzz Balm and Honey Hand and Body Cream

—————————————————————————————————

Beecology products are made with all-natural, renewable ingredients (no parabens or preservatives) including honey and wax from a Cleveland family’s own hives. In 2011, Beecology products were listed in Cleveland Magazine’s “Best of” issue and picked up by Whole Foods. We wanted to find out–is there truth behind the buzz?

So, we sent our FOF testers two products, Buzz Balm, a natural remedy for chapped lips, and Honey Hand and Body Cream, a “never-greasy,” moisturizer made from cupuacu (tropical fruit), shea butter and Beecology’s own honey. Were these products the bee’s knees? Read on.

Quick take: 5 out of 7 testers would recommend Beecology hand and body cream to other FOFs. 3 out of 7 testers would recommend Beecology lip balm to other FOFs.

—————————————————————————————————

Nelli Douglas–Ontario, O.R.

Did these products effectively moisturize your hands and lips?
Yes.

What do you think about the fact that they are fragrance and preservative free?
I don’t have any allergies, so I would have preferred a light scent.

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips? What changes did you notice?
A big difference in my hands–within two or three days the chapped appearance was gone and they felt much softer. I did not notice a big change in my lips–I didn’t feel the balm was penetrating my lips and had to use it quite often for them to continue feeling soft.

{click here to read all the reviews!}

Would you continue using these products? Why or why not?
Yes. I suffer from dry, chapped hands with cracks near my fingernails. I have not seen any sign of these conditions [since I started using the products]. I will also continue to use the lip balm, because I like the peppermint tingle after applying it.

Would you recommend them to other FOFs?
I would recommend the hand and body cream especially for people who suffer from dry skin. The lip balm was great but didn’t give me any better results than other brands.

—————————————————————————————————

Linda Paul–Catasauqua, P.A.

Did these products effectively moisturize your hands and lips?
Yes. The hand and body cream was especially effective.

What do you think about the fact that they are fragrance and preservative free?
I actually missed a fragrance. The lack of preservatives does not matter to me.

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips? What changes did you notice?
I noticed a tingling when applying the lip moisturizer which I did not particularly care for. The hand and body cream left my hands soft and smooth.

Do you think these products are a good way to achieve smooth skin on your hands, body and lips?
I did not like the tingling from the lip balm.  The hand and body cream was not greasy and was quickly absorbed. It left my skin very soft and smooth.

Would you continue using these products?  Why or why not?
I would probably not use the lip balm. The hand and body cream was delightful and I would continue to use it, although it would be better with a light, floral scent.

Would you recommend them to other FOFs?
Definitely the hand and body cream, but not the lip balm.

—————————————————————————————————

Sarah Baldwin–South Thomaston, M.E.

Did these products effectively moisturize your hands and lips?
Yes.

What do you think about the fact that they are fragrance and preservative free?
Preservative-free products are very important to me. I loved the natural, sweet, honey smell of the hand cream. I shared the cream with my staff and they all agreed.

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips? What changes did you notice?
My skin and lips feel soft and moisturized while using these products. The lip balm soothed my chapped lips although the peppermint was too strong. I did not like the tingling, burning sensation.

Would you continue using these products?  Why or why not?
I would continue using the hand cream because it works, smells wonderful and best of all, is all-natural, free of petroleum and preservatives. I would not continue to use the lip balm because I did not like the strong sensation left by the peppermint.

Would you recommend them to other FOFs?
I would recommend the hand cream without hesitation. I’d recommend the lip balm, only if you like the tingling sensation of mint.

—————————————————————————————————

Kim Sortet–Mooresville, I.N.

Did these products effectively moisturize your hands and lips?
The hand and body cream wasn’t very moisturizing. The lip balm was very moisturizing – love it!

What do you think about the fact that they are fragrance and preservative free?
I have extremely sensitive skin, eczema and am deathly allergic to fragrance and preservatives, so this is very important.

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips?
The lip balm is the real winner. [It had a] pleasant peppermint smell and feel–very soothing!

Do you think these products are a good way to achieve smooth skin on your hands, body and lips? Lips only.

Would you continue using these products?
Yes. It is so hard for me to find a fragrance-free product, let alone, preservative-free.

Would you recommend them to other FOFs
Absolutely!

—————————————————————————————————

Patricia Marinace–Bayville, N.Y.

Did these products effectively moisturize your hands and lips?
The hand and body cream was an effective moisturizer, but felt greasy. I thought the lip balm was a good barrier for moisture loss (it prevented by lips from becoming chapped) but not a very good moisturizer–it felt waxy.

What do you think about the fact that they are fragrance and preservative free?
Frankly, I did not like the fragrance of either product, especially the lip balm. They both had a petroleum smell.

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips?
Immediate changes–notably my hands and lips felt smoother, but the lasting effects were no better than any other product I’ve used.

Would you continue using these products?
I will finish using these products, but would not purchase them in the future.

Would you recommend them to other FOF members?
No. I feel there are other products on the market that are superior to these. I think that FOFs are looking for, and can afford a more effective, more pleasant smelling product. This product did not say luxury to me at all.

—————————————————————————————————

Darcy Roederer–Cedar Rapids, I.A.

Did these products effectively moisturize your hands and lips?
Yes, but I enjoyed the lip balm more then the hand cream.

What do you think about the fact that they are fragrance and preservative free?
The hand and body cream smelled very olivey! I happen to love olives, so after awhile, I didn’t mind it. The lip balm didn’t seem to have any smell and I enjoyed it tremendously! The fact that both are preservative-free is great. With all the chemicals that we are exposed to, it is nice that Beecology products are more natural!

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips?
I didn’t really notice any difference on my hands and forearms. I liked that the cream isn’t greasy at all. I noticed a difference on my lips when using the balm. They were much softer and smoother.

Would you continue using these products?  Why or why not?
Yes, [I’d continue to use] the lip balm but not the hand cream because of the smell and I didn’t see much improvement.

Would you recommend them to other FOFs?
Yes, the lip balm.

—————————————————————————————————

Michele Marrucco–Stamford, C.T.

Did these products effectively moisturize your hands and lips?
I really loved the hand and body cream, it felt like it was moisturizing, without being sticky. I liked the lip balm, and felt it worked well. It also did not feel sticky, a huge plus.

What do you think about the fact that they are fragrance and preservative free?
I would have loved to have some fragrance. I liked that it had no preservatives, it made me feel that it was safe and clean.

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips?
I looked forward to moisturizing with the cream. I used it on my elbows, hands and feet. It felt really good after the shower and on my legs after shaving. It was light enough to put clothes or hose on immediately.

Did you notice any changes in your skin and lips?
Yes–a smoother body and hands. I would use the lip balm when my lips are severely chapped.

Would you continue using these products?  Why or why not?
Yes.

Would you recommend them to other FOFs?
Yes–very nice products.

{Test This} Somme Institute’s 5-Step Regimen

—————————————————————————————————

According to Somme, their 5-Step Regimen (retail value: $298) “transforms the skin…improving its tone, texture and clarity while reducing the signs of aging.” Heard it all before, you say?

Well, the team of researchers and dermatologists at Somme Institute swear this isn’t the same old story.

The institute was founded in 1994 on the premise that “skin care companies should deliver the claims they promise.” Seven years later, the team discovered MDT5 or Molecular Dispersion Technology 5, a now-patented compound used in all Somme’s skincare products. Reps claim that MDT5 allows the active ingredients to penetrate the skin 3-4 millimeters deep, deeper than ingredients are able to penetrate with other skin care products on the market.

Somme Institute is giving 7 FOFs the chance to test their 5-Step Regimen which includes:

Step 1: Nourishing Cleanser
Claim: Deep cleans the skin while leaving it feeling dewy, soft and refreshed.

Step 2: Transport (exfoliant)
Claim: Promotes resiliency, hydration and cell renewal.

Step 3: Serum
Claim: Helps reduce the visible signs of premature aging, smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and evens skin tone.

Step 4: A-Bomb (moisturizer)
Claim: Helps soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles while targeting other problem areas, such as poor skin texture and dryness. Calms and soothes the skin while promoting skin’s vitality and firmness.

Step 5: Double Defense (sunscreen with SPF 30+)
Claim: Protects skin from premature aging while locking in vital moisture.

We want you to tell us: Is it high fives for this five-step regimen…or did it leave you hanging?

{Tested} StriVectin-TL Tightening Neck Cream

—————————————————————————————————

Let’s talk turkey…Beauty manufacturer StriVectin promises that their TL Tightening Neck Cream (retail value: $89) will tone that turkey neck within two weeks. The cream is made with NIA-114, a “proprietary form of vitamin B3” discovered during skin cancer research and shown to “strengthen skin.” We called fowl on this turkey neck tightener but sent some to our FOF testers just to be sure. What’d they think? Was this turkey neck tightener for the birds… or a golden egg? Read on.

.

Quick take: 4 out of 5 testers would recommend this to other FOFs.

—————————————————————————————————

JOANN MELTON, Florissant, MO

Was this product easy to use?
Yes.

Did you notice any changes in your neck?
This product was amazing. I expected to see some instant, temporary improvement. But, by day three I could see visible, lasting results including firming and smoothing. Every day forward the results improved upon the previous applications. The turkey neck has not reappeared even on days when I was less diligent about applying it.

{click here to read all the reviews!}

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
I plan to. It’s not in my typical price range for product purchases, but I can see that [given] the [results] per application, it’s not expensive.

Would you recommend it to other FOF members?
Absolutely. It addressed the skin issues that maturing brings, without causing redness or irritation. I have sensitive areas of my skin, so this was a major plus.

—————————————————————————————————

ANGIE EHLERS, Aurora, CO

Was this product easy to use?
Very easy. It goes on smoothly and has a great texture. It smells nice and is not too greasy.

Did you notice any changes in your neck?
Very noticeable results instantly. The results were long lasting.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
Yes. This is something wonderful, new, and worth it! I would use it over and over again. It works like nothing else I have ever bought.

Would you recommend it to other FOF members?
I’d recommend it to anyone looking for an instant lift!

—————————————————————————————————

THERESA MELTON , Cleveland, TN

Was this product easy to use?
Yes, very easy. The jar opened easily even when my hands were slightly damp from washing them and my face. The little paddle supplied was just the right size to scoop out a proper dose. By using the paddle, I knew the remaining product was not contaminated, which happens when you have to scoop out product with your fingers. The instructions included were written in about every major language on the planet and were easy to understand.

Did you notice any changes in your neck?
Unfortunately, not a single change of any kind. I was deeply disappointed. I really wanted this stuff to work and would have gladly ponied up some big bucks to keep using it if it had been effective.

What other changes did you notice?
Nothing, other than a couple of pimples.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
No. It was completely ineffective. I saw no changes, not even moisturizing effects I would have gotten from a cheap lotion. It also left a somewhat tacky residue after use and I really disliked the light scent it had. However, these quibbles would not have kept me from using it if the product had performed as advertised.

Would you recommend it to other FOF members?
No! Save your money, sisters! I’m glad this trial is over and I can go back to my PY Neckline Slimmer.

—————————————————————————————————

HELENA LEMON, Provo, UT

Was this product easy to use?
Extremely easy. I just put a small amount on in the morning and night.

Did you notice any changes in your neck?
A slight improvement. My crepe-like skin can be dry and not supple. It was better after I used the product.

What other changes did you notice?
I didn’t have as much sagging in the area directly under my chin. It was just a slight improvement, nothing drastic. On a few occasions, I broke out on my neck. I believe it was because the cream is very heavy and blocked pores. I also noticed that the product would become dry and would flake off like dead skin–which was sometimes rather embarrassing.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
Yes, I would continue to use this product because I saw enough of an improvement. Also, it lasted much longer than a month. I used it twice daily for a month and I still have over half the jar left.

Would you recommend it to other FOF members?
Yes. If you want to have a little bit more firmness in your neck area I would recommend it. If you want a more dramatic effect, go for a neck lift.

—————————————————————————————————

SUSAN NAVIDAD, Little Rock, AK

Was this product easy to use?
Very; It is smooth and easy to apply.

Did you notice any changes in your neck?
Skin is firmer, tighter, less saggy.

What other changes did you notice?
One time it seemed like the skin was exfoliating, but I’m not sure if it really was–there was no redness, only a seeming slough of skin cells.

Would you continue using this product? Why or why not?
Oh yes! I’ve continued to use the product. I love that the skin on my neck is more firm.

Would you recommend it to other FOF members?
Most definitely.

{Test This} Bring It Up Instant Neck Lifts

Denise Cooper won’t give in to gravity. She is the FOF behind Bring It Up, a line of products designed to lift everything from your brows to your breasts. The Los Angeles salon owner was downright tired of listening to her clients complain about their double chins and turkey necks–so she created Instant Neck Lifts (retail price: $20 for a 30 day supply), which she claims can “instantly tighten and tone a sagging neckline”–sans surgery.
