{Makeovers} We now pronounce you… M-O-B Makeover Winner!

FOF Sharon Hoffman is happily married, but never had a wedding. “The closest I had to a wedding was a party my family threw for me when I got leave from the military in 1983,” she says. “I was pregnant and wearing a borrowed maternity dress.”

Sharon met her husband John, in her JAG (Judge Advocate General) Preliminary Basics Course. The two fell in love, and coincidentally were both assigned to active duty in Germany. But in order to be stationed in the same German city, they had to be married. They quickly married in Denmark in January of 1982 and planned to have a wedding once they returned to the U.S.

“By by the time we returned, I was 5-months pregnant, and I looked 10-months pregnant because I was carrying twins,” says Sharon. “It wasn’t the time to have a white dress sort of thing.” Now, 26 years later, one of her twins, Erin, is getting hitched. With the wedding approaching next May, Erin wanted her mother to have a chance to shine. “She never had that special opportunity for herself and I know it that’s something her and my Dad always regretted.”

FOFs were touched by Sharon’s story and her daughter Erin’s selfless nomination:

“My vote is for Sharon. When you give up your big wedding to serve our country, you are a special person and deserve this special treat,” said FOF Anja McConnon. “And the fact that her daughter and bride-to-be wants her to win this, shows what a wonderful mother Sharon is.”

In the coming weeks Sharon will have a private style consultation with designer-to-the-stars, Kay Unger, and win a complete look for her daughter’s wedding from the designer’s collection. Her makeover will be documented here, on the FOF Style Blog.

Erin and her fiance, Paul, will be married next year at the Clifton Inn in Charlottesvile, Virginia. The planning has already begun. “I don’t know much about wedding planning and etiquette, because I didn’t do all this,” admits Sharon. “I’m learning as I go and trying to take Erin’s lead.”

“She’s helping, thank God!” says Erin. “It’s a lot of work!”
